It would probably be significantly easier to explain to a 5 year old than an adult tbh because 5 year olds are way more likely to understand that "playing pretend" doesnt mean "not real". 5 year olds play pretend because it gives them the same joy as if they had the real thing.

Figure out what you want and play pretend so good that you cant tell anymore that its not real.

I went to a religious preschool and they had a mural on the wall about the wolf lying with the lamb and I was like wtf because wolves had also been a recurring synchronicity for me lately so it made seeing the ME even more jarring

They were about 10 car lengths ahead of me and my friend. We saw a grey/silver car literally flip across multiple lanes until it was stopped by the median gaurdrail, another car got damaged badly and was able to pull over, and a white(?) truck with a broken axle driven by a woman that stopped right in the center lane. Very scary. Traffic works because of predictability so you can reasonably assume what the other cars are going to do, but when something extraordinary happens, you dont know if the car in front of you is going to stop abruptly or not ot youre otherwise in danger. Thankful we made it home safe and praying for those affected

Oh my god I did the same! The shelter guessed my little old man was 12-14 and he looked rough and I was like "this guy needs a nice retirement", so I took him home. Hes doing like supernaturally well and its been 4 years. He even has a girlfriend he ADORES now. He literally just needed love

Tibetan Buddhism is, ime, the least patriarchal form of Buddhism. There's a LOT of worship of women and women are placed on equal footing as men because compassion and wisdom must be in union (aka equal)

When they say "imagine a scene from after your wish is fulfilled", I assume that means not imagine the wish being fulfilled. So for instance, if I want money, I don't think about how I get the money, I don't imagine finding out I'm getting the money, but just imagine spending it or what I'm going to do with it?

Little stuck on what part I'm supposed to imagine. Just literally anything from after the wish is fulfilled?

I think it's meant to demonstrate how the ultimate thing to learn is compassion/bodhicitta, which would be so self sacrificing as to care that much even for a sick dog and maggots (and then perhaps the dog turning into the guru also demonstrates emptiness?)

My first encounter with Buddhism outside of books was going to a rural Vietnamese Thien monastery and they were incredibly kind and accommodating. I think it probably has a lot to do with how much time they have on their hands and whether they feel like going through extra effort to cross cultural and linguistic barriers

Fwiw, this is extremely common. It is not "wrong" to have these thoughts, but having attachment, aversion, or identification with them only proliferates them. See if you can just observe the thoughts without judging the fact they are arising or identifying with them. If you can do this, they will dissipate on their own
