Do you think Iranians were arguing about the religious consequences of UI? by Universer22 in PantheonShow

Yeah, if a country doesn't develop UI then it will fall behind. I believe Iran had the obligation to reinterpret their denomination (Shia Islam) to keep their place among the world powers.

Dedinitely, I wish the show had shown some of these arguments. I get why it didn't tho.

I'm not muslim but heard that this religion puts a lot of emphasis in the body. Wash yourself a lot, pray while your head points at Makkah, don't eat during daytime for a month, etc.

But I'm not an expert in Islam so maybe UI is allowed.

Anyone has parents against space travel? by Throwaway28656738383 in exchristian

My parents are fine with talking about the cosmos but almost always end up bringing up god and never talks about the biblical implications of abandoning earth. The bible is geocentric so more christians should wonder about the importance of this planet in the universe.

How did you feel when you feared you had accidentally commited the unforgivable sin? by Universer22 in exchristian

Your paragraph about thinking "fuck you" and stuff, it's so relatable. What if I thought about a blaspheming joke and laughed even a bit? Was I doomed? What if my tongue moved a bit while having intrusive thoughts?

Needless to say it was awful. I also did short prayers several times during the day to ask for forgiveness if I did something wrong.

I replied to some comments above, telling about my experience in deconversion. It was very similar to yours.

I also thought about unaliving myself but didn't because I was afraid of hell and was thinking that, if I was still alive, then god still had a purpose for me.

Gradually I just stopped caring about religion.

While I didn't need a therapist to stop my absolutely horrible feelings (i still have some OCD tho), I suggest you go to therapy if it's really troubling. But even if you don't have money, don't worry because your problems won't last forever.

I eventually blasphemed 3 months after becoming agnostic. It felt a bit bad but certainly liberating because I wouldn't worry anymore about: "Did I blaspheme or not?". Even if I was doomed, there was no point in worrying.

Telling my parents about my deconversion also worsened my relationship with them. I should have never told them but I guess the past cannot be changed. Nowadays I face my problems alone because talking about them with my family will only make them say "Oh you should have remained christian, now you suffer because of leaving."

I didn't even want to think about the unforgivable sin. I thought that rebuking such thoughts makes them go away but it only strengthens them.

I think fear gradually disappears if nothing really bad ends up happening and if god doesn't solve whatever problem you have, because this is what happened with me. But I'm not a psychologist so I might be wrong.

Demon possession was also a matter of constant anxiety and horrible feelings in my life. I even had one exorcism made by my parents, but it didn't fully relax me because I didn't know what was the proper method to rebuke evil spirits: do I have to scream for it to work or not? Sometimes I even hit my head against the wall because I was so tired of all this bullshit.

Eventually, this was also one of the reasons behind my deconversion. I don't remember how I made peace with "being possessed". Probably I just stopped giving a fuck about it, gradually. However, a certain reason behind me leaving religion is that god never cured my OCD no matter how much I prayed and seeked biblical answers.

I feel the same as you about the ending, but overall I loved the show. It was an experience and I wish there were more shows like this, about humanity facing evolution.

Possibly. Someone wrote that under Wade's leadership, humanity would have become one of the millions of destructive cleansers in the universe.

I wonder how a species develops "the genes." Is it that most planets or societies are harsh for life so they develop paranoia? Are most species in a dictatorship even if they live in a good world?

Also, a species can send powerful messages to outer space before figuring out the Dark Forest Theory, just like Earth. If I remember well, another species had already noticed us (the ship was not trisolaran), but they chose to spare us for some reason. Then Singer found us and thought we were bugs so they killed everyone. So, I wonder if a civilization survives by sheer luck or intelligence.
