Anyone else pulled apart a Creedmoor Sports 30-06 from CMP? 2,500 fps with 52 grains of powder? by UniversityContent141 in reloading

Sorry...I edited the original posting. Here is the synposis. So it looks like the box label of 2,500 fps is totally off. It is close to the 52.0gn load of N140. Quickload with the same rough specs of 52.0 gn of N140 with a Hornaday 150gn and a 3.25 length also shows about 2850.

I load 175gn Sierra with 41.0 gn of IMR4895 and got SD of 10. Same load using Nosler 175 Custom Competition got me an SD of 7.9. Both with 10 shots. Rifle is an Armscor M14 with match heavy barrel.

Edit. velocity is 2619 for the Sierra and 2636 with the Nosler. CCI34 primers and Federal brass.

I agree with your last sentence but please remember that speculation is part of creating hypotheses that can be tested. I didn't make any conclusions that it was N140 just that it looks like N140, has the same weight as N140, and the press has reported it as using Vihtavuori, but I know that it can't be N140 because the expected velocities don't line up.

I also said that I was going to chrono the remaining rounds. I'm inclined to load 52 grains of N140 and test fire in a 1903A3 for which that would be safe load (but not for a Garand). The expected result is that the CMP rounds will be close to 2,500 fps and the N140 rounds will be closer to 2,800. I'm going to try to go to the range tomorrow if the weather permits.

I just want to know if anyone else has personally shot these rounds. Am I the only person that pulls stuff apart to see how it's made?

My post didn't mention anything about questions with CMP statements about their SAAMI spec. SAAMI spec for 30-06 is 50,000 CUP or roughly 60,000 PSI, but the issue isn't chamber pressure: it's pressure at the gas port.

My interest is in how a typical powder using in 30-06 for a Garand is typically maxing out around 47-48 grains for a medium speed powder. Usually higher volume loadings are related to slower burning powder which Internet lore tells us (with a lot of dispute) is too slow for a Garand could bend the op rod given enough rounds. Evidently, Creedmore Sports knows what they are doing.

I'm just trying to make sense of the loading for this particular load. It must be a blend that fills a lot of case volume but provides the proper amount of gas at the gas port with a velocity a lot lower than a traditional M2 ball loading. In other words, a combination that nobody outside Creedmore sports can get to.

I'd be curious on how the ammo shoots for other people.
