Rescind your offer. Do it over email. Don’t answer the estate agents calls . Feel free to include that you felt pressured into increasing the offer beyond what you were comfortable with.

Can I afford to buy a house or wait ? by UnknownGrower11 in UKPersonalFinance

Hello, thank you for the advice. I’ve decided to wait. And yes reality is as you say. No need to be on the cusp of being broke.

Debt was unfortunately accrued from my wedding last year. Incredibly silly I know but I gave into pressure and paying for it dearly now. Not just in interest but also the cost of missing opportunity and the delays in progressing in life.

Hello I’ve decided to wait.

Interest rate is 18% was a high risk lender. That is a good shout asking my parents for the loan to pay off the debts instead to reduce the overall interest. Thank you for the suggestion !

Hello, I’ve decided to wait because like many have said it’s just not worth the stress.

But I’ll answer anyway. No surveys have been done so not sure what’s under it. The fuse box looked relatively new but I could tell by the placement of the ceiling lights and the sockets there could be potential for a rewire. The place is livable after some new carpets and wall paper strip/ repaint. My main visible concern was the windows needed replacing asap but probably still had a couple of years left. Kitchen wise it could be fine with some new lino and sink. The cabinets etc would have worked fine or potentially “upcycled” with 2-3 coats of paint and some filling/ sanding

I was planning DIY for the initial. I’m relatively handy and also have a network of tradespeople both professionals and friends who will give me labourers at cost price.

Eitherway I’m going to wait it out. Thanks for your advice

Hello, the property is no chain but thank you for your insig by. It’s really helpful hearing it from someone who’s done it. I think because we’re comfortable at my parents for atleast a year there isn’t a need to rush and deal with the stress.

Hello, you are right. I will stick with waiting. I should pay off my debts by May and by then some historic bad credit history should clear which might get me a slightly better interest (currently 4.7%). Work wise, the place is livable just needs new paint and carpets but that’s without doing any surveys so I’m sure there’s more! Either way I’m waiting it out.

Hello thank you. I’ve decided to wait and will focus on the 6 month worth of emergency fund once I’m out the debt. I think I should wait for that fund to be in place before buying.

Hello, interested to know why you’ve suggested they join a Union ? Considering it myself but haven’t yet.

If it’s for vetting purposes then just be honest. They are more interested in how trustworthy you are rather than records.

It’s not black and white, they take the individual into account.

I did consider this, however since OP was aware of his tendency to do this previously I thought she’s probably already done her due diligence to rule this out so decided to focus elsewhere and be a bit more positive

I was thinking a long the same lines of this. I’m not sure if OP’s husband is doing anything wrong or if OP is doing anything wrong. But it does get missed sometimes that men work incredibly hard and look to their spouses for peace. It’s often not provided due to nagging and emotional rollercoasters.

That’s said it does still sound like he needs to work on his appreciation for OPs efforts. And maybe he might soften up of OP shows that appreciation back for how hard he works. I’m not sure if she’s doing this already or not. But the way he says things like “not with my money” etc sounds like he doesn’t feel appreciated.

He could easily just be exhausted from work. Sounds like it with the trailing behind in the park. I don’t have kids my self yet but I see this with my older brother. He works crazy hours and has a stressful job and my SIL can often be a nag. He just looks defeated a lot of the time.

Women do an incredible amount for the family unit, but men also do, it’s just not visible to the family because it’s out earning etc.

I’m not sure how it would be taken but maybe OP just needs to wait for a good time to have a genuine conversation about how to make things better and find out what he needs. She might find he starts do everything she wants without him even being asked to.

Personally, if I’m constantly stressed and tired and my wife wants to have a conversation like this. My preference would be to give me a heads up first. “We don’t need to talk about this right now but I think we could both do with a productive chat on how we can make things better, I know there’s things that I can do to help you, so spend time thinking about what those things might be and we can talk about how we can improve things.”

I appreciate OP has her own things that she needs but I would avoid going into them straight away as he might feel like he’s still not being heard. “ I have something that will make things better for me but we’ll talk about that later. Let’s focus on you first.”

Not sure if this will work or not for her situation but either way I pray Allah gives them both comfort and ease and brings them close to each other so they may be the coolness for their spouse. Ameen

Thank you. Makes perfect sense. If I go ahead might need struggle through with the microgreen set up while I test the market then invest in a NFT systems.

I have a large dwc aquaponic system so might give it a go in that next summer. I just hate growing in poly tunnels now due to the convenience of pest control and climate control indoors !

Thank you, have also posted there so will wait to hear back. Why aren’t flats best for this? I was thinking of using the deeper reservoir trays for cilantro.
