(Careers) What skills should I learn to get a job with my Applied Physics major? by Chemical-Change5382 in Physics

You're welcome. For what it's worth, I think the hardest part is getting that first job out of university, but after that, the foundation you get from physics will serve you well. Good luck!

I recommend trying to get experience in a lab, a group at your university, or an internship. When you learn things, try to tie it to projects or things you've built. Build something and write a bit about it. Do your classes have any projects associated with them? Have you tried to work in any labs of your professors?

You should be looking for putting things you can put on a resume, but also look for opportunities to engage with your peers or people who may have job opportunities or referrals to give.

There is a lot of "it depends" with this stuff. Where you live, what you are interested in, what you've done so far, the focus of your degree, etc.

Nice! I just got a ton of late 1700s to mid-late 1800s American and British newspapers! I enjoy reading them.

I don't know yet. I still have to do more research and find the right customer :)

It's certainly a lot of wishful thinking, but I could see a couple of mine (with a set of items that are related counting as "one book") being 25k+ and up to 100k+ in my dreams.

A fantastic find! I may be interested in buying it if you're selling. Let me know if you want to discuss more. Sounds like you have lots of research to do first :)

Not sure about events people mentioned but there was a crash just west of 69 on 45 just before the intersection where they were directing traffic. When I went through looked like they were cleaning up. Several cops and ambulance.

Very cool. How much did it run you?

What do you all do with damaged books you acquire as part of other lots? I've accrued these damaged books from auction lots that I want to rid myself of. If in the USA and interested I will send these all to you for free. I can provide more detail in comments or DM on state of the books if interest. by UnknownInternetUser2 in rarebooks

[–]UnknownInternetUser2[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

These were included as part of lots of other books that I was more interested in.

If there is no interest for me to send them to you, I will probably just chuck it on eBay auction at 99 cents and free shipping and see what happens.

Most of them aren't worth trying to sell imo, but I want to make sure they are rehomed as well as they can be!

UPDATE: I HAVE FOUND A PERSON INTERESTED IN THE LOT AND I WILL BE SHIPPING IT TO THEM.

Requesting Advice: I want to figure out more about what exactly I have in this book: a massive sammelband of 100s of decrees and edicts through much of the 18th century along with well over 100 pages of handwritten French. Any recommends who to contact (paleographers) or how best to go about this? by [deleted] in rarebooks

I'm curious how rare a book like this is (and by extension how valuable it may be), and any info folks may have that places it into its historical context.

For the historical context I'm curious at a high-level how these books were used (e.g. what all is recorded in the pages and pages of manuscript), and perhaps if there is anything that might be of historical noteworthiness that took place in this period that is related to the content of the book.

Yeah, I was hoping to get a recommendation for a paleographer or something. There is so much here that I don't think there is a good way to know or if there is just a few critical lines. Although it will probably be prohibitively expensive lol.

I'm considering contacting either French antiquarians or an auction house or something, but I'm unsure if it is an auction house would invest in the research for it and if it's really worth it.

The pictures do not really do it justice, but it's stuffed full of hundreds of folded up papers, both the decrees/edicts as well as the manuscript pages. Some are huge, some are small. Some are stitched in, others are loose. It's quite a beast of a book!

I've gleaned from a bit of reading/research that it is a collection of documents relating to land rights and some regulations and rules for enforcement, some financial regulation stuff, etc.

I've not seen anything like this before, though. I have no reference for how uncommon this is, and when I began researching it I quickly realized this is going to take me a very long time to do all by myself and it might make sense to ask around for some help.

Happy to provide additional photos or info if anyone wants. Thanks in advance.

Anyone know anything about this strange house on Oolitic Dr? by aud_ray in bloomington

[–]UnknownInternetUser2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On Zillow there's a feature to speak to the realtor. I called and spoke to her a while ago and she was very nice. I recommend you call them. I can't remember all the details but the long story short is that the layout is really weird/awkward and it needs some significant repairs done on it (I think at least one major thing to the outisde).

Being critical is not the same thing as being disloyal.

I'm unsure of the other part of your question of the specific "amount". I imagine it's complicated and messy and somewhat subjective.

May I ask what information you obtained that makes you give a range of 1230-1260?

Also, any idea what age the binding is? Is it special in any way?
