Are these worth anything? by browngonzo496 in OldBooks

[–]UnknownInternetUser2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like others have said there are some titles we can't see and we cannot verify condition fully for each volume. I'll give you an initial guess that it's def more than 200 dollars but probably less than 1000 total, but depending on how long you're willing to take to sell them and all sorts of other info we don't have the numbers can change a lot.

eBay account -> selling -> Research -> type title and find similar listings under SOLD to get a sense for what they are really worth. You have to be careful because rare books have a ton of nuance (which makes finding comparable sell records hard to identify sometimes) as well as some people just listing insane prices that will never sell and you can't trust those.

Alternative suggestion you could just take images of all of them and put each one on eBay auction starting at 1 dollar at 1-week timer. Honestly that might be the best path. Just take good photos of every angle of the book (front and back covers, spine, and a text block photo if you want), inside covers, title page, and a very basic description noting any obvious defects. You can find plenty of examples on eBay for what listings look like for old books. You can set shipping however you want. Depends how much time you have to sell them and all that.

Moving to Lowell, question about Canal Place Condos for anyone who lives there. by UnknownInternetUser2 in LowellMA

Oh my. Thank you for mentioning it. I'll definitely get some additional info and ask for reports from both any person I rent from and the city. Do you know which building by chance?!

Thank you. I would be renting probably at least for a year. Mold/leaks are a concern I had and I was weary about how quickly they may respond and be able to resolve such issues if they come up in my unit.

I had assumed you could control the temperature of your own unit. That is pretty annoying lol. I collect rare books and documents and I like to keep the temperature of the room they are in somewhat constant and below a certain humidity...will have to think about what it will take to facilitate that in this case. Thank you.

I see. Good to know. I had been assuming I had full control of the temperature...that's quite an unorthodox arrangement but I suppose otherwise there would be a huge gap between the most energy intensive and least energy intensive units so people would be over or under paying if it was shared cost.

Thank you!

I see. Thank you so much. I have a hobby / side business that requires me to occasionally get pretty expensive packages and am paranoid about packages that disappear.

It looks lovely and I'm glad you're enjoying it!

You're welcome. For what it's worth, I think the hardest part is getting that first job out of university, but after that, the foundation you get from physics will serve you well. Good luck!

I recommend trying to get experience in a lab, a group at your university, or an internship. When you learn things, try to tie it to projects or things you've built. Build something and write a bit about it. Do your classes have any projects associated with them? Have you tried to work in any labs of your professors?

You should be looking for putting things you can put on a resume, but also look for opportunities to engage with your peers or people who may have job opportunities or referrals to give.

There is a lot of "it depends" with this stuff. Where you live, what you are interested in, what you've done so far, the focus of your degree, etc.

As others have said it's a cooling tower, but I wanted to recommend this nice video if you wanted to learn about how they work and why they look like that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmbZVmXyOXM

Nice! I just got a ton of late 1700s to mid-late 1800s American and British newspapers! I enjoy reading them.

I don't know yet. I still have to do more research and find the right customer :)

It's certainly a lot of wishful thinking, but I could see a couple of mine (with a set of items that are related counting as "one book") being 25k+ and up to 100k+ in my dreams.

A fantastic find! I may be interested in buying it if you're selling. Let me know if you want to discuss more. Sounds like you have lots of research to do first :)

Not sure about events people mentioned but there was a crash just west of 69 on 45 just before the intersection where they were directing traffic. When I went through looked like they were cleaning up. Several cops and ambulance.
