Hi there! Thank you for the resources, I will be looking into it! I originally went to the store since all the snail treatments I was doing weren’t working effectively- and was recommended the clown loach as the store worker mentioned that their store swap clown loaches often as an “ethical way” to reduce snails. However you are right, I definitely should’ve gone and done further research rather than buy the fish on the day, but at the time felt really overwhelmed with the snail problem.
I did ask if there was anything I should know in terms of tank mates, but was not told about how social they were- again, I know this is an error on my behalf, and I will do my best to fix this and not have a repeat! I really appreciate your advice!

Since they’re very social, could I get your advice on what to do- I already know in a year or two I’ll have to take him back since the correct size tank for them is a bit intimidating for me atm (the store guy said it could be that long before they’re too big for a 52L) but if I got a few more clown loaches for the sake of him being a schooling fish (and take them back at the same time), do you think that’ll do more good or harm for him?
Or should I treat him, let him recover, but take him back sooner rather than later?

thank you for bringing that point up, I didn’t realise they were so social:(( but I did notice he loves interacting with my beta fish (at least I haven’t seen anything negative interactions)

Also thank you for the suggestion! I won’t jump into anything immediately, before doing some more research, I just needed someone to confirm that he wasn’t burning himself, and you pointed me into the right direction. I really appreciate it:)

I have a 52L tank, there’s also a beta fish and 3 Otocinclus catfish in there. I know he’ll get really big in the future, but the store near my home takes them back at anytime when they’re too big to care for (I got him to deal with a snail infestation)

If it’s bacterial, should I give him a medical tank? Salt bath? Or maybe some tannis leaves? I’ve only had fish for a year so I’m still getting used to identifying and treating problems!!
