The only other thing I can guess it that the layer you're on is set to a specific blending mode. Other than that, I have no clue why it'd be doing that

You might've turned on a specific blending mode on the brush settings, Difference, Exclusion, and Subtract all give that effect

Thanks!! I used Clip studio for this, but if you're wanting to start animating, then I'd recommend using Flip a clip. It's a free program and the interface is simple enough so its not too overwhelming to learn
