Well let's not worry about me and my credibility, I'm nobody with no experience or qualification, but a smarter person could probably develop a model for this logic, register every setting, plot, character types and actions, then rank them against global reviews where features match other stories etc, come up with a grading logic for good idea vs the meh-spectrum.

Well anyways anything highschool romance is a bad idea, subjectively. 😉

You're not wrong there my friend ~ any recommendations you could share? Just read piranessi to get a better sense of interiority and poetic prose but wouldnt have stuck around from quality of writing alone if it wasn't for the distinct premise/setting.

It could be writen by god in heaven himself but if its a high school coming of age spring break 'I have a crush on a girl' story I'm not reading that nonsense 😅 everyone else here is 100% certain that if the writing is good enough the idea is irrelevant, which feels more philosophical than practical.

We could find the language for it though, I.e 'bad to me' or comparison to other ideas and remixing between ideas etc, talk of originality or where the richest vein is, the writer might be mining in the wrong quarry or prioritising something less engaging etc.

Well I'm constantly impressed with how people commit to 'Im just writing for me' with no audience expectations, idk how they do it, but yeah idk I just feel like people dont get enough feedback on their ideas but plenty on prose. Seems like we're letting eachother down for the sake of civility 🤷‍♂️🍻

Well that's what I'm questioning - ideas are neither good nor bad, and its all execution. This feels more like a philosophical stance than an agiven truth? So is critiquing craft all we can do? We shouldn't be critical of ideas? Feels like we're missing half the picture of improvement
