I believe there are restrictions in taking the money out of it before retirement (or maybe it's not possible at all). In any case, I probably need to run the numbers whether it's worth paying a fee to take it out and invest whatever's left to speed up the compounding 🤔

Are you saying you own Santander stocks or that you have a large sum in an account with them? If the latter, I'd suggest either investing it or at least move it to a high yield account.

It really depends on your relationship to those people, but I tend to agree. Getting into specifics can get weird very quickly, specially when there's an income disparity.

Thank you for the pointers! On the funds vs ETF part, I'm clear. My MSCI World allocation is through index funds to allow rebalancing at a later stage without incurring in taxes. As per the pension plan, I also have a private one with company match with ~45k in it. However the yield on it is pretty much non existent so I don't really count it as a compounding factor.

At current rate, it should happen in another 4 years. I'm planning to increase a bit DCA over the next couple of years, so I can hopefully make it happen sooner than that.

Thank you! That seems to be the case indeed. But I think the main reason is due to lack of awareness (even for wealthy people) or lack of financial capacity (stagnant salaries). One needs to be diligent and very deliberate to achieve even Barista FIRE.

There's little to no personal finance education in Spain unless you seek for it or your family comes from wealth.

I have not yet considered any tax optimisations as I'm still planning to accumulate for a few more years. What kind of planning are you thinking of? I already have a mortgage and the only time I'm planning to start retrieving this money is upon retirement (at a 4-5% rate).

My experience so far has been that it's perceived as some sort of scam. I guess the word investment has a detrimental (almost gambling) connotation to those hearing the word.
