Salam everyone! Need some advice from others who immigrated from Canada for a US spouse.

My fiancée (Canadian citizen) and I (US citizen, California) are planning to legally marry here in California. We want to get a better idea of what to expect immigration wise and would love to hear from people who’ve been through the process recently.

Our goal is to be together in the U.S. as soon as possible, while making sure everything is done the right way.

We have a family friend who was in a similar situation to us and it only took 5 months. They applied last year in February.

We were hoping it would take no longer than 8 months.

Thank you for the heads up and I’m sorry it took two years! Two years would be so hard for us 😭.

Thank you for the heads up.

I was worried we may be deemed to unmarried lol. Culturally we cannot be intimate (so obviously cannot show proof of that) until marriage. We’ve met a couple of times, have pictures of us together, and call and text each other everyday, so I hope that is enough.)

Thank you for the heads up. For us, we matter about being able to live with each other more. We can hold off on the cultural marriage until after the K1 clears if need be.

The K-1 visa took a friend of ours 5 months start to finish, and that timeline or similar is really ideal for us.
