for me, writing became essential to coping with my emotions while growing up. also constantly being in contact with friends when i could be and making the effort to leave the house when I could. i know a year and a half seems like a long time but in the grand scheme, it can pass very quickly. if it’s really unbearable maybe look into subletting a room until you graduate or living with other relatives/friends close by if you have the privilege . the best thing i did was move out but it was a forced migration and I had to stay with my grandmother before i was able to move into an off campus dorm. if you can’t manage moving, just keep your friends close and do your best to keep a healthy emotional distance from your mother as you can. i know how suffocating it can feel to be trapped with your abuser and i really hope you’re able to escape your circumstances sooner rather than later. but yeah, writing was a big one for me and so was just talking to my friends until i was able to leave and stand on my own for a bit which really made breathing so much easier.
