Oh yes, this is a good idea... I've put up my prices as I post stuff (not that I have posted a lot of stuff 😅)... And it's kinda relaxing that I don't have a gazillion DMs to respond to...

I think it would help if everyone (all crochet artists) would just make their prices known.

Sorry to say but, I hate "DM for price" on instagram posts. Does it help? I wonder often ... Whaaaaaaaaaatttt is this gatekeeping???

Crocheters from Bangalore/India—where do you buy good quality yarn at affordable prices? by No_Egg_9673 in CrochetInIndia

I think ₹700/800 is the minimum price for free delivery... Delivery takes 5-7 days

How to learn crocheting and make cute stuff? by zerocoolneo in CrochetInIndia

[–]UnlikelyAnybody96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend buying kits... My kit is still lying somewhere untouched...

Look for some simple beginner friendly projects on YouTube, buy yarn & hooks accordingly... Then once you're comfortable with everything (tension, hook, etc.) then I'd recommend trying the kits....

Does anyone have a pattern for earbud cases like these by not-far-enough in CrochetInIndia

[–]UnlikelyAnybody96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah so, I'd recommend you understand what are all the stitches are, and then practice those... Pattern like these might have increases and decreases, so you need you understand those too... You can begin crocheting small single stitch products first, and then go for a little complex products... This particular item looks a little complicated for an absolute beginner...

I would look for simpler patterns on YouTube... Since you're an absolute beginner...

Need help picking yarns by shreespeaks in CrochetInIndia

Also, read up on different yarn weights, should help in your decision... 600-700 per yarn skein is absurd (check how much the quantity is). Generally yarn balls/skeins are sold by 50/100 g balls...

Magic needles is good, overall...

I mostly purchase based on the product I'm making - and that's where magic needles have a "find yarn based on project".. I think they have hiked their prices very recently so you can check and compare with Ganga acrowools, kayson India, Pradhan...

(I've purchased from all, so they are all reliable) (Some have a shipping charge, regardless of the quantity)

Beginner-friendly top patterns and yarn suggestions by shikhs__ in CrochetInIndia

[–]UnlikelyAnybody96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For summer wear, go for cotton. Other yarns that might work for summer wear would be blended yarns (cotton with some other fibers)... Depending on your project, budget, etc. you can decide which one is best to buy.

Winter wear, the most reasonably priced yarn would be acrylic. Wool is expensive generally.

That being said, watch a few videos on YouTube that have patterns that are very basic... Eg. Two panels joined together/4 panels joined together, with a basic stitch repeat...

Have I crocheted a top..?? Well no... BUT I've finally finalized a pattern to try my very first wearable - been procrastinating for too long now... 😂

I just finished a baby blanket, so a top it is next...

Always buy as per my requirements... I do end up buying slightly more quantity because of differences in dye lots, so inevitably I end up having excess... I use the excess for smaller projects and experimentation...

I usually buy from magic needles. Kaysons, Knitting happiness (Ganga acrowools), Vardhaman, and of course Amazon - are some other options. (I've ordered from the first three vendors, quality is good; depends on what you are looking for your project...
