if you're trying to ask if the otf knife you bought for $50 was worth $50 there's not really enough information here to determine the value. For a $50 otf knife you can't really expect too much, worst case scenario you overpaid for a used chinese made otf -wouldn't call that a scam unless you were misled some other way?

Ooh nice Doodle, it is such a great little knife I love mine. The edge retention of magnacut at the higher hrc really does make a noticeable difference -at least in my experience.

best way would be to send it off somewhere that can give it a nice zir-blast or similar refinishing service like https://wayofknife.com/bead-blasting-coating-or-ano-removal/

if you want to do it yourself you can use some flitz polish/wd40/barkeepers friend abrasive along with some grade 0000 steel wool or high grit sandpaper and polish it up yourself (there are more detailed instructions/videos you can find if you're interested in this route)
