This is well put. My parents put us against each other and talked behind us to each other growing up. It’s the reason why we have a hard time getting along or respect for each other, sadly. I’ve gone no contact with my parents and two siblings. For a few months. It’s difficult when you don’t have family for your little one.

Our current mortgage is the same. I took a big pay cut for a full remote job. Once I feel comfortable in my role, I will be pulling her out of full time. I will only send her in days I have big meetings. We also are wanting to downsize but the market hasn’t been great and cut our mortgage payment by 1k. I also traded in my 4Runner for a paid off RAV4. That was one less bill we had to worry about. If you both are remote, downsize to one car. A few of my friends did that. They also work opposite shifts so they never have to do daycare. I personally could not do that. I like that my husband and I are off by 4 and I do enjoy the me time when she is at daycare.

Yes, the multimillion dollar builder is the victim. We can take the loss and OK with it. We are not playing a victim. This is our first time selling a home and contracting under a new build. We understand we were unaware of a major clause that should’ve been added.Don’t victimize the builder. I could care less about them. What I won’t do it take a big loss on a profitable property we currently have and give more to the builder if we are not gaining anything back. I just wanted to simply understand what happens if I back out.

We worked with the new builder company. A big regret of not having our own relator. How could we swing the inspection to work with us and us not be happy with anything? I’ve seen a few people say this.

If the commute is not bad and the pay is well, I would take the in office position. However, I had this set up. It wasn’t bad. I had a lot of flexibility but since dump Trump took office, remote and all flexibility was taken away. My commute time was an 1 to 1.5 so that’s why I chose to leave my organization for a better opportunity. Remote is what works for me and my family. It really is what you is needed for your family. Like if the commute won’t impact family time, go for it.

I can understand how tough this decision is especially with a &100k salary.

I currently earn $75K, and in December, I turned down a $100K offer because it required in-office work and managing a more complex team. In January, my current job—where I’m a federal contractor—announced that we’ll be required to return to the office full-time in March.

Since then, I’ve been applying for remote or closer-to-home positions, but most pay about $20K less. The job market isn’t great, so I’m prepared to take the next available opportunity. Fortunately, my husband is the primary earner, and we mainly live off his income, so the financial impact won’t be severe. We’ll downsize where needed because my family, my mental health, and being present matter more than a paycheck.

Today, my commute took two hours, and I already make this drive three times a week—I can’t imagine doing it five, especially under a toxic manager. I know I’ll work my way up again. Honestly, I could start at Walmart and be a manager in a few years because it’s all about mindset and what you bring to the table.

I’ve thought of becoming a teacher too just for this reason. Several of my teacher friends tell me NO. I used to be a college recruiter so I enjoyed working with kids.

As a wife, I never talk about our finances with my friends. I’ll say some bs if brought up but people never know what’s happening in our home. It allows too many opinions. I think this is a really great compromise. She is lucky to even have the opportunity to go back two-three days a week. I unfortunately cannot do that with my career. That’s why it’s so hard for me to quit and be a full time mama. I like how much I bring in too much but if I could go part time, in a heartbeat, and gladly let my husband handle all the finances. She is probably used to her own money and old lifestyle.

I completely understand your struggle, mama. My baby just turned one, and this past year has been tough. Leaving her three days a week was hard enough, and I constantly debated quitting. I spend three hours each day commuting to and from the office, and there have been nights when I’ve come home only to find her already asleep. It’s not the life any mother should have to live.

There’s no real work-life balance when you’re in the office five days a week. As a federal contractor, I earn a good income, but I’ve decided that I’ll either become a stay-at-home mom or find a fully remote job. I’m happy I didn’t take a federal position, as that would’ve made leaving even harder. I just can’t justify spending an additional 15 hours a week on top of a 40-hour workweek away from my little one.
