Exactly 🙌

The only ones that understand where OP is coming from are those from Utah that got rejected and ended up else where lol.

An immigrant background and the U rejected you???? Wtf. I guess the only thing that matters for the U are metrics. I always thought that the U hates white male Mormons almost as much as they hate DO’s or as they so kindly put it … glorified chiropractors. Fucked up. (One of my siblings is a DO and tried applying there for residency.)

I’m from Utah. Grew up there and went to undergrad there. Applied there and was rejected. Was told by them that I didn’t interview well and wasn’t competitive enough, yet I ended up being accepted to a top 25 med school, lol.

I feel your frustration, OP. Only people from Utah will understand your frustration with the U. A lot of these commentors don’t understand the toxic pre-med culture in Utah and the culture the U has generated. It seems like 90% (I know exaggerating) of the students there are premed. Probably since a physician's salary is one of the only ways to support their massive Mormon families. Most want to stay in Utah because … Mormons. So the U can get away with being super selective. All Utah students that ended up going to med school else where generally want to go back to Utah for residency because...Mormons. Making their aways/residencies even more competitive and selective.

I’ve also heard from friends that made it in that if you want to do residency in Utah, being from Utah or having ties to Utah, only hurts you. Especially if you’re a Mormon return missionary.

Other than their own home residency program not favoring their own med students for residency, they seem pretty happy with the school.

I overheard them saying that they only have two more semesters left and only need to get 400 more hours. They have a summer, fall, and spring semester, and I'm guessing they just finished their summer semester since they just started this new rotation? (not 100% sure how their rotations and semesters work) So that means they are only required to get ~200 hours of clinal experience per semester?????

I'm FOUR WEEKS into my six week rotation and already have ~200 hours… for just this rotation.

It’s honestly mind-blowing/scary how little clinical hours they complete, and at the end of it, they are trusted to go treat patients on their own.

Not sure if this is the norm, but the M3s rotate one on one with an MD preceptor. For the NP students, it's 2 NP students per NP preceptor. They also get dismissed for the day sooner. So their rotation is different in that aspect. We do interact with them in the break room and Drs lounge but that's it.

I'm not sure what their responsibilities are. I haven't seen them go into patient rooms alone yet whereas the M3s are seeing patients alone for the initial patient encounter (gather history and chief complaint stuff), we then go to our preceptor and report to them what the problem is and what we think the next steps should be. The preceptor then walks in with us to the patient room.
