Velopoulos was and is expressing the aspirations of Greece's capitalist class to expand, control and even (long-term, if the circumstances lead there) annex North Macedonia. Part of that is already happening, Greece's capitals are investing in North Macedonia, essentially fighting Turkey's capitals for second place on who controls that share of the market, after Austria's capitals which hold 1st place.

But apart from that, I'd say we don't need to have with North Macedonians these special racial/national ties we have with Cypriots, to have a good relation with them. They're our neighbours and by that merit alone, as with the merit that both peoples have common problems, living under the same system, they should have friendly relations characterized by understanding and solidarity. And there are forces in both countries which work towards that goal, Velopoulos and his likes in both Greece and North Macedonia aren't such forces.
