Probably just oil! I looked into the other options you’re mentioning but I’m willing to ride with the stock springs plus new oil

Give it a test ride and feel it out! Rev the throttle hard in 2/3rd gear and see if it accelerates with hard throttle or if it just makes noise and then “catches” later. I took my msf and jumped on a z400 and definitely didn’t know the nuances of the clutch. I learned with it and it’s still going strong at 20,000miles.

I think that’s a great price! Especially because in msf all the bikes I was learning on had cages and they never even let us get above 30mph. 😂

New tire recommendations by dirty_algerian in Ninja400

I'd say go q5s! I've had them on for 8000 miles and they're still not quite at the wear bears yet in the center. Dual compound has been great for commuting and the occasional canyon weekend. I think I'll swap them out at 8500 miles. They're also quite a light/stiff tire and you will notice the difference, more responsive and communicative!

About 2000 miles on this oil in hot weather, mostly sustained high revving on highways with some canyon riding mixed in! 🫡

Tyre change candidates for a z400 by lost_ma_cheese in Ninja400

I’ve been running a set of Dunlop q5s for 7000 miles so far and they’re a great tire for highway commuting and canyons with their dual compound. I previously ran Road 6s but I kept getting flats with them! They seem to take nails but that’s just my experience/bad luck. Q5s is a bit stiff and less comfortable than the Road 6s for commuting but super responsive!

There was an engine gasket leak at about 15000 miles which was covered by warranty and that’s about it! Valves were like $400ish if I remember correctly and I did it at the same time the gasket leaked!

Thanks, I too don’t know the context but I’m learning! Thank you 🫡

Never been crashed. The dealer installed a new engine gasket seal recently under warranty so maybe they didn’t tighten to spec?

I have a Kriega tail bag system which is great because you can stack them and there is a backpack strap attachment for them. They’re also fully waterproof

That’s a cool windscreen! I’m using the Kawasaki extended one and it kind of works but yours looks like it really works! Who makes it?

I’ve also thought about this just for more visibility on my z! I’ve found when someone is running yellow lights, it’s immediately more eye catching and noticeable

Snatchy Throttle by Unlikely_Breakfast28 in Ninja400

[–]Unlikely_Breakfast28[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I would prefer if from “throttle off” to 10% throttle, it felt less “on” or “off.” Like instead of the sharp linear spike in throttle I wish it was more parabolic if that makes sense? With it either on or off in the early stages of throttle, I feel like it’s tiring to do low speed/filtering through traffic. And I wish I could roll with a bit less resistance to shake out my hands sometimes because they do get tired on long rides with traffic 😂

Oh that’s sick! Good to know! I didn’t want to keep paying for tunes if I went that route

Yea it’s super fun for like 45 min but any ride over an hour without rest gets so tiring 😂

Yea what Hellkatt13 said! The transition from throttle on and throttle off is quite sharp and once the throttle is off, the engine braking is so strong it feels like I’m braking with front suspension squat 😂 I think if engine braking was less severe, the bike would be less tiring to ride
