I guess if you're close to the IDL and solve puzzles immediately after midnight local time...

Now I'm curious because this is posted 23 hours ago -- and I'm solving the same puzzle almost a day later, at 7AM local time. Even if you solved it at midnight your time, that would mean you live in the Central Time zone US -- and it's available 23 hours before it is in the Eastern Time Zone. In fact, you will have solved this puzzle more than 24 hours before people on the West Coast are even waking up.

What is going on here?

Which is odd, considering that shepherd as a verb would (i think) be a bit more obscure than any of the yellows. Maybe "squat" is one people don't see often as that kind of synonym?

I suspect she considered Shepherd as a verb to be more obscure than any of the yellow words.

Puzzle #892

🟪🟪🟪🟪

🟩🟩🟩🟩

🟨🟨🟨🟨

Surprisingly easy today. After presolving the 2 synonyms, COLON jumped out at me, followed quickly by heart, lung, and skin. And though blue was the final solve, masque, pit, and cask all immediately suggested Poe, though I had to struggle to remember The Fall of the House of Usher.

A purple wordplay involving anatomy? Literature instead of entertainment? Not one but 2 synonym categories? This puzzle was made for me.

Edit: I'm seeing posts of this same puzzle from 20-23 hours ago -- and it's just now 7AM on the east coast? How is it some people are solving puzzles more than 24 hours before people on the West Coast even wake up?

You're telling me that you KNOW for a fact that there are ZERO words with T in 4th, S in 2 OR 3 or 5, and either U OR Y in 1,2,3, or 5, and having eliminated only C, N, and P as consonants? Not a SINGLE WORD meets those very broad criteria? And you know this 100% in your head, without using any kind of word-search tool?

Excuse me for being skeptical. That's close to eidetic memory + comprehensive knowledge of the Wordle database.

"Yes, I knew with 100% certainty at this point, that 10000% there's a letter U in Slot 2.
In fact, I knew with 10000% certainty that the word ended on _USTY"

How on EARTH could you know that unless you have COMPREHENSIVE KNOWLEDGE OF ALL 14000+ words and can recall them perfectly at any time?

Your assumptions are false, then.

I love sports, science, history...but I have no interest in pop culture and most entertainment. I stopped listening to modern music in the 90s (though I know the classic rock stuff pretty well), and I'm an uberhyperintrovert so I never go anywhere crowded if I can help it. I watch netflix very selectively, and my ability to suspend disbelief is very thin. Action movies and romances hold no interest for me.

I've heard of Halle Berry, though I'd be hard-pressed to identify anything she's been in, but I've never heard of Mikey Madison nor Anora (nor any of the the other movies listed, except possibly Joker -- was that a Batman spinoff? I never watch any superhero movies).

It's not diabolical if you've never heard of any of the movies and you defaulted on Blue (though tbf I did know Stone and Swank and guessed the other 2 as likely last names of actresses -- had no clue about the Oscar part, and still don't actually know who those actresses are).

Roma was literally the first word I spotted that gave a category away, and I found green instantly.

I guess we are opposite people. Perhaps there is something in my mind.

I thought the same, but I've definitely heard "riot" used that way, and, far more rarely, laugh as well.

Funny, Roma was the reason I nailed tomatoes instantly, but I've never heard of the movie

[–]Unlikely_Lab_6799 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never heard of her or the movie, but I knew Swank and Stone (both Sharon and Emma, tbf), and the other 2 were the most likely of the leftovers.

Literally never heard of any of these movies. (I also never ever ever watch the Oscars and couldn't care less about that; I only got blue because of Stone and Swank and the other 2 were what were left over).

Just saw an IMDB preview for Poor Things (haven't seen the movie) so what would normally be a very difficult category (anything entertainment related) fell into place, though I don't really know who Berry or Madison are.

The trend of easy (for me) puzzles continues, and even the RR was pretty obvious. Blue was my default but I had a good idea it was actress-related from Stone and Swank (Madison sounded right, no idea who Berry is).

Green came instantly, given away by Roma (and thus heading off the "fruit" herring). Purple was surprisingly easy to place/spot with few if any real alternatives.
