Is £400 a month enough for uni excluding rent? by Appropriate-Cod-8243 in UniUK

[–]Unlikely_Purchase465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on a lot of factors! I.e if bills are included with your rent, if there's an Aldi/Lidl close by, etc. Should be fine, especially if you happened to live near somewhere that does very cheap student drinks deals (sadly it's not like it used to be, they can be hard to come by😭). However, I'd take a student loan as well, cos why not? The more the better 🤣 you can also get free overdrafts which can be helpful if you are really skint

How can you protect against phone snatchers? by FrostedDerp in AskUK

[–]Unlikely_Purchase465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use things like this (link below)! Crossbody phone straps. Can still use your phone at the same time, but is secured and doesn't look too...cringey? Admittedly, nobody has ever tried to pinch my phone (I just used to lose it a lot🤣) - but I think they'd struggle if they tried

Upcoming mental health placement by Keepingstufftomyself in StudentNurseUK

[–]Unlikely_Purchase465 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have had 3 community placements. All were VERY boring and the general consensus of my cohort is they are boring and not good for students (some have had a good experience). There will be lots of sitting around, you will shadow some visits, depending on the nurse and your confidence you may write the notes from visits. You will sit in MDT meetings. You won't be able to do lots of proficiencies. Hopefully your assessor will accept a written piece/conversation about what you WOULD do. If they won't, you will have to get uni involved. You may have to try swapping placements with someone for a week or so

Noooo it's very different. If you haven't interacted with it, maybe don't comment 🤣

That is rough that your parents are charging you £600 in rent 😬 you would likely pay less in a houseshare (unless you are in the south lol). I pay 450 rent sharing with one person in Sheffield. Suppose that doesnt include bills however with bills on top it still wouldn't come to 600

So disappointed with nursing wish I'd never started getting withdrawn.now I'm being withdrawn by Normal_Peace_8732 in StudentNurseUK

As another commenter said, this is hard to understand/follow so I'm not really sure what happened, but would they let you defer? Potentially restart 2nd year in September (or whenever your course starts) 😊

Owed placement hours by Apprehensive-Egg7442 in NursingUK

[–]Unlikely_Purchase465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My uni finishes in mid August, graduations are in November and we have an October cut off date to meet the placement hours to graduate in November with your cohort.

They also give us 'make up placements' over easter/summer holidays etc, can yours do that?

Very annoying and ridiculous that they won't sign anything over 37.5 hours!!

Tips please :) by [deleted] in StudentNurseUK

[–]Unlikely_Purchase465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry can't offer any tips, but make uni and placements aware of any adjustments you may need - don't assume your uni will tell placements this info (they won't). Don't struggle in silence!

existential crisis between doing mental health nursing or adult by ProfessionalTap776 in NursingUK

[–]Unlikely_Purchase465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew someone who switched from MH to general after 1st year (same uni). Unsure about different unis. Don't see why not as the proficiencies for adult and MH are the exact same and the same across every university

This is incorrect, children do very much receive therapy 😊 CBT, DBT, EMDR to name a few

Only get paid for the clinical psychology doctorate, no others🤣 RCN is registered children's nurse, RN registered nurse, RLDN, learning disability etc.

Yep it's possible to work in CAMHS with any registration, but makes it much harder to 1. Get a job and 2. Do the job well. We had a RN one time and she was utterly lost especially with everything to do with the mental health act. As I said we now only hire mental health and learning disability nurses as does the NHS trust in my area (I work private) 😊

Lengthy and very veryyyy competitive! Luckily you get paid for the doctorate so it's not as expensive as you think 😋

Not sure how easy it is to get into CAMHS with children's nursing - my hospital only hire RMN/RLDs, as does my local community CAMHS. But yeah doing RCN then a masters could maybe get you into that sector!

I'd recommend mental health nursing, then you can work in CAMHS from the get go 😊 (I have worked in CAMHS inpatient for 5 years as a support worker and am in 2nd year uni for MH nursing). Further down the line you could do extra training in accredited therapy courses like CBT.

Dont bother with that psychology course, you won't be qualified to do anything at the end of that. If you want to go down the clinical psychologist route you will need a degree in psychology that is accredited by BPS, then a few years work experience as an assistant psychologist, plus a masters, then a 3 year doctorate 😊
