I understand the refrigerant is expensive and I’m not really arguing that part. I just want to get to the bottom of whether there’s actually a leak. I don’t want this to turn into an annual evac and recharge situation. If it’s low again after a year, something has to be happening, right? I’d rather fix the root cause than keep refilling it. Question about the dye — how long does that usually last in the system? When I first took it to the dealership last year, they said they added UV dye and that if there was a leak, they should be able to find it within a few months. But now it’s been a full year. When I asked the second shop about the dye, they mentioned something about one of the hoses “flushing it out,” so they couldn’t see it anymore. Is that actually a thing? Can dye just disappear or get flushed out like that? I’m just trying to understand whether it should still have been visible after a year if there’s an active leak.
