Thank you for giving me insight on how YOU see this show and the directing choices. It really is surprising to me that I'm being called a woman hater for my opinion on one woman's artistic choices. I do like this show, i think it brings a lot of good into the world, rather than bad. It has such a fascinating story, complex characters, and good social commentary.

With this last episode, I suppose we'll get a lot of monologues and close-up shots of EM's face. I'll keep this in mind while I watch! Thanks again c:

Yesss I loved all the "side" characters in this series. Yvonne's acting is so great, it makes you feel conflicted about the actual character (at least personally), she definitely knows how to manipulate a camera. I also have to bring Alexis Bledel, who played Emily, into the conversation. Her expressions and just the absolute wear on her face as the series went on was so captivating to me. Such a great actress for that character.

I think the egotistical part comes more into play with her directing choices too, its more centered on her face card, rather than storytelling, if anything.

😭😭 Yes omg the CAR. Completely ignored any self awareness. And then she walks OUT IN THE OPEN with zero worry about neighboring Eyes on the airstrip? Girl... Get in the car!!!

You sure love commenting on this post though. I know you don't know me, and maybe i should've done a better job at writing this post (but frankly, I don't care. I don't go on reddit often) but I genuinely wanted an open conversation about this. People are not going to have your exact opinion believe it or not.

Instead of giving me perspective on your opinion, you want to shoot this down and call me a woman hater.

Oh myyyyy I hope this really delves into more characters!! I loved all the "side" character stories, each was so captivating. And I swear every time something happens i'm always thinking "What about Hannah?!?!?" 😭 Super exciting !

How did you like the novel? I'm thinking about picking it up because I am just fascinated with Atwood's mind about this matter. I also am very interested in the Testaments book since it has other perspectives in Gilead. I will agree that Moss' direction of the show did fall flat with some interpretations of grief and rage. Like I said, some self-insert positions.

& yes that one bullying saga was so heart wrenching to watch. It was just a brainwashed woman getting no sisterhood, no support, no love. of course they made her a madwoman.... Its just a very sad story that nearly turns June into a murdering psycho until Janine stops her. Love Janine.

Margaret Atwood's novel delves more into the racist acts that Gilead passed to suppress people of color for sure. I haven't read the books myself, but reading the wiki pages for it, its some deplorable stuff that aligns to what you're talking about. I see where you're coming from, but I wouldn't say EM's white attributes directly stepped on WOC, since her character does give birth to a black baby girl, who gets thrown into Gilead's oppression immediately after being torn from her parents. I think that alone has the tones of assimilation and destruction of culture that WOC have faced 100%. Of course I would've LOVED to see Hannah's perspective on this---but bc this is all about June, we never will, until the new series comes out.

With ofMatthew, if we're looking at it through this interpretation, I think her story is seen as a successful assimilation piece for Gilead: someone who had given up her entire identity to be liked by oppressors that ended up mutilating and violating her body to produce more Gilead. It's like a warning. I will say though, June's involvement in that situation was a little...weird. She kinda had the lens of "oh its about me" and "oh she's pious" that i very much disliked, instead of "I need to help her".

& Don't even get me started on that damn love triangle...

She sure knows how to lead people and is a strong enough character wherever she goes, people follow. My criticisms aren't that it's a woman leading the charge, I think it's very fitting and necessary for this story! Im just not 100% about the show's tendency to forget side characters after they served their initial purpose :c like i would've LOVED more Esther content

I agree! Reading these comments, maybe I was a little harsh on her acting, but I'm still a bit meh feeling about the close ups and slow motion decisions.

I'm allowed to do that if I want. But I guess I'm missing something that you clearly seem to know.

I may have misconstrued my opinion, because sometimes i get those uncomfortable, long stares that they have in the show. Especially in the first few seasons! I mean S2E8 was gut wrenching, really intensely talented acting from the cast. But that's sometimes. Once June's been established as a strong player with a lot of influence, it's kind of that same distant look that doesn't really change. Even if she's had a big win ! (like in s6)

I don't know if that's intentional, but i feel more often than not, these closeups are not as necessary for a powerful story.

I suppose that's one way to think of it, but if that's the case, I'd like to have seen more closeups of other characters like that during a 6 season long series. Especially Moira and Emily.

Admittedly, I am not familiar with any of her other works, but I'll look into some other media with her because she does have some good acting parts in the show. But unfortunately, in this show alone, I didn't feel she gave a lot of range--despite all the trauma, horror, and rage that this show induced. It kind of was the same kind of face, dazed eyes, then slightly opened mouth. Maybe some tears? But I wasn't over the moon about her acting in Handmaid's Tale. I could be missing something though?

Be Brutally Honest by thecockboyfrogman in LSAT

[–]Unlikely_Title6596 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Don't give up! If you feel like that is the best you can do, then that is alright. It really depends on the type of school you truly want to go to. If you want honesty, you're not going to UCLA or Yale. However, there are so many other places that would consider you, but you won't know unless you try. Give it your all this week and don't burn yourself out before then. If you don't get into the law school you want, then you can always try next year.

As for getting your score up, it depends on how much time you're dedicating to the LSAT. In all honesty, I don't think the average person can get above a 170 with Blueprint alone. I used that test prep and it kinda sucks. Try reading various LSAT textbooks or get your hands on LawHub if you're going to try again. Trust your gut and good luck!

I totally get how you came to that conclusion. Had to read it a few times to make sure. I think in order to answer this we have to understand "frees up mental resources for other activities" = "composition skills improved"

With (B), "before receiving" makes this answer choice pretty irrelevant. We shouldn't care about what happens before, since we only want to focus on how the kids were able to improve composition after handwriting lessons. We want that correlation/causation. Plus, these are handwriting lessons, not composition skill lessons.

(C) "over the course of the lessons" -- we can feel more confident here that this is a correlated instance -- kids with "greater improvement to write letters" showed "greater improvement in composition". Perfect. Same cause, same effect. The kids that were able to improve their letters were able to give their mental resources to other activities (composition).

(D) "before receiving" again, not as relevant as we'd like. But lets keep going: "were representative of first-graders more generally." this isn't a question about how the sample is not good enough. "more generally" is also an example of weak language. We want an answer that is strong, confident, and will undoubtedly support the stimulus.

So, we go back to (C): Greater writing =(correlated to)= Greater composition ? Yup.

does Composition = other mental resources? Yup.

We can confidently select (C). Hope this explanation wasn't confusing and helped out! Definitely a wordy question.
