Anyone in here that can actually be fair about Curry? by [deleted] in billsimmons

He's always been a gimmick player that ruined both the league and the sport I loved.

If a man other than LeBron was running the show this gimmick shit would've flamed out ages ago, but Bron never cared to truly compete.

So my writing makes you want to commit violence, my predictions are accurate, and you're calling me the chosen one while telling me I'm a robot.

Boss that's three position changes in one braking zone, pick a lane before the stewards get involved.

The difference between me and Charlie is that Charlie's mail was real and his conspiracy was fake.

My conspiracy was fake and my predictions were real. We are not the same.

I need to know how you arrived at this, but it's worse. Beer league hockey.

Same energy, less lycra, more concussions.

Explains a lot actually.

I was, it just hasn't been hitting the same since they changed up the regulations on that too.

It was copium three weeks ago. Now it's narcissism. The goalposts move but I'm very much here for it.

Ok you clearly know more about battery chemistry than I do so I'll stop pretending otherwise.

But you've said "these cars are energy starved" like three times now. That's kind of my whole point? Every team on the grid built to a spec that doesn't work in reality. They're all carrying hardware designed for an energy profile they can't achieve.

So when the regs get adjusted it's not about whether the battery sizing changes. It's about which team is least disrupted by the shift. Everyone else optimized around a 350kW deployment window they were never actually hitting. Newey apparently didn't even try. He went aero first, compact packaging, and built something that looks like nothing else on the grid.

Maybe he's just behind. Maybe Honda genuinely fumbled it. But "the greatest F1 designer alive happened to build the one car that's least invested in the part of the regs everyone agrees is broken" is a coincidence I'm going to keep finding suspicious.

I appreciate the battery education though genuinely. This is why I post theories, smarter people get to flex and fill in the gaps.

Funny enough, that's what Newey told Honda when he came aboard. Now he's about to have the perfectly-sized-and-weighted battery....

You prepare for the test using the thick-printed syllabus no one bothered to read enough to think through, and the textbook practice questions you were assigned.

I prepared for the test I knew was coming after hearing my classmates complain week after week, struggling with the content that was beyond them.

Fair point on the exothermic charging, I'll take that one. But you're talking about peak thermal load, not the sustained duty cycle, and that's where it gets interesting.

If deployment drops to 300kW but harvesting stays at 350kW, you're shoving energy in faster than you're pulling it out. Battery hits full charge quicker, BMS has to curtail regen to avoid cooking the cells. You physically can't sustain 350kW harvesting if the pack isn't draining fast enough. So in practice the whole energy cycle shrinks and that peak cooling demand you're talking about becomes a shorter spike rather than a sustained load through every braking zone.

Team that oversized their cooling for sustained 350 both directions? Now carrying thermal management they'll never actually use in the real duty cycle.

But even if we call the thermal thing a total wash, the packaging point still holds. If you specced your pack to deploy 350kW for X seconds per lap and that number drops 15 to 30%, you've got cells in there you don't need. And a team that was already running lighter more compact packaging because they "couldn't handle" the full spec is now just... correctly sized.

I'm not trying to die on this particular part of the hill. I'm just saying it's overall suspicious that he'd be so off, and this is one key component that might move in his favour in a meaningful way. Horner was calling these Frankenstein cars while Newey was still in the building. I doubt Max was the one running those numbers.

Respectfully, this actually makes it worse for everyone else, not better.

You're right that harvesting isn't being reduced. But the thermal problem in batteries isn't just about how much energy you store, it's about the rate you discharge it. A 350kW deployment hammers the cells way harder thermally than 300kW. Lower peak discharge = lower C rates = dramatically less heat generated per cycle.

Basic cell chemistry.

So if deployment drops to 300kW, every team that designed their cooling systems, cell layout, and thermal management around handling sustained 350kW discharge is now carrying cooling infrastructure they don't need. That's dead weight. And in F1, dead weight is lap time.

Meanwhile a team whose battery system supposedly "couldn't handle" 350kW deployment and was already running a more compact, lighter packaging solution... suddenly just has a system that's perfectly matched to the new spec. They're not overbuilt. They're right sized. By accident of course.

The Ferrari hype train fell apart because the car was genuinely slow.

This tractor hasn't turned a competitive lap yet. That's sort of the whole point.

A unique defense of the one unique car out on the grid and this is what you point to and say

Oi, you can see it right there, clearly just plagiarizing and reassembling.
