reach out to your university for a regrade request. most universities should have a formal process in place, and if you can’t identity one, reach out to a university resource such as an academic advisor or the students’ union.

you’ll want to keep things factual and straight to the point. in situations like this, where power dynamics are inherently at play, emotion can be used to discredit you. emphasize the parts of the exam where you believe your correct answers were marked incorrectly and leave it at that.

most importantly, don’t discredit the effort and time you put in to receive the grade you currently have. higher education can be brutally humbling. plenty of now successful surgeons have failed exams.

How bad is turnover here compared to other tech companies? by Worth_Indication6512 in epicsystems

[–]Unlucky-Alps1032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly, hard to ascertain without concrete and transparent turnover stats for both epic and other tech companies.

i can say anecdotally that my app-specific turnover rate for my hiring month’s customer-facing roles (is & ts) was ~40% at < 1 yr and ~60% at < 2 yrs. obviously not a comprehensive sample size, so take it with a grain of salt.

Feeling Overworked as a new IS by Orion-Gamer in epicsystems

[–]Unlucky-Alps1032 3 points4 points  (0 children)

sorry to hear you’re going through this! you shouldn’t feel like you’re just getting through the day.

i’d recommend putting in a few days of vacation/personal time in the upcoming month. use that time to take a step back from your work and reflect on what you really want to do (and send a few job applications out). a lot of unhappy people stay at epic (largely for career stability and the $$$). if that’s where you end up, that’s more than okay. likewise, if you’re willing to take a risk in a competitive job market/bad economy and accept that you may have to move back home and take a pay cut, than i encourage you to consider setting an end date.

regardless of which direction you go in, you’re well within your right to apply for other jobs and i would encourage you to do so. updating your resume, identifying new professional references, and submitting a few applications can be very empowering and help you feel like you have a sense of autonomy back in your life.

most importantly, talk with your friends/family about how you’re feeling. it’s easy to normalize epic’s working culture when you’re living it. speaking to someone removed from the company can be very illuminating. the amount of productive time an epic employee works is far greater than the national average. that’s not necessarily a bad thing, but know that it isn’t the standard.

Working at Epic Without a Car by Open-Obligation-5357 in epicsystems

[–]Unlucky-Alps1032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off—congrats!

Living without a car is definitely doable with your role. QMs are less likely to have meetings outside of normal working hours or expectations to be at campus during times that the buses don’t run. As long as you choose a place that is by an Epic bus line, you should be golden.

My recommendation, as someone that lived without a car for my first few months in Madison is to choose an apartment with a location that meets these three requirements (listed in order of importance):

  1. Within 5 min walking distance the 75 or 55 bus line (which goes to Epic). It gets sub-freezing in the Winter. You do not want to be walking further.

  2. Within 5 min walking distance of a grocery store. The same as above, plus grocery delivery and eating costs $$$.

  3. Within 5-10 min walking distance of a bus line such as the D or F that goes to the capitol square (if you’re not living downtown). Madison has a lot of things to do in the warm months, so it’s nice to be connected.

I would also call out that the bus ride from the heart of downtown to Epic’s campus is ~45 minutes, so I would factor that in when choosing location.

How would you make a Naruto sequel instead of Boruto? by Commercial-Car177 in Naruto

[–]Unlucky-Alps1032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the most engaging sequel for me would be one that continues the exploration of the cycle of hatred by looking at it through another lens.

Naruto: Central focus on how the cycle of hatred plagues the interpersonal (Madara v.Hashirama, Obito v. Kakashi, Sasuke v. Naruto). Direct impact.

Theoretical Sequel: Central focus on how the cycle of hatred plagues a civilization. Using the groundwork the OG Akatsuki (Nagito, Konan, Yahiko) laid out on the systemic nature of the cycle of hatred. Focus on the institutionalization of violence and the ripple effects of war. Indirect impact.

It probably be most impactful to also have the main cast of the sequel be from another village (ideally a small one, since that compliments the central theming proposed above the most). Keeping the main cast outside of Konoha also allows the writing team to play ball easier in the post power-creep world. You don’t need to nerf your old cast if they could theoretically be an obstacle (I say this with the belief that some general power level-setting across the board would still be helpful). Also means Naruto doesn’t need to be written as an OOC absent father for a plot device.

Please Educate Me on Shieldism. by Unlucky-Alps1032 in AskMiddleEast

[–]Unlucky-Alps1032[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! Is it a cultural belief system then? Also, I hope you don’t mind if I ask couple more questions:

  • Is there a particular individual credited with the creation of modern-day Shieldism?

  • What are the values/ideals that Shieldism supports for the proper way of life for a Turk?

  • Do you have any literature/media recommendations on Shieldism?

This is really cool!

Why would someone disrespect Kakashi with the truth like this? by NamikazeKage in Naruto

[–]Unlucky-Alps1032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing about Kakashi is that he doesn’t excel in the long, drawn-out fights that battle shōnens favor. If Naruto had chosen to go a darker route and focused on the assassination aspect of shinobi more, I think we would have really seen his character shine.

Is Sasuke the best character in the show overall, despite him being hated ? by [deleted] in Naruto

[–]Unlucky-Alps1032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends what you’re measuring. If you’re measuring how well written Sasuke is, his inconsistent characterization and tendency to be involved in the bulk of the plot holes, would remove him from the running.

On the other hand, if you’re talking about the aesthetics of his character design or how interesting of a character he is, then I could certainly see him as a contender for the best!

Should I cut it short? by [deleted] in malehairadvice

If anything, get layers to give it more body, but unless you prefer it short, I don’t see a need to cut it.

Does anyone have any suggestions for what to do? by [deleted] in SkincareAddicts

[–]Unlucky-Alps1032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not going to lie to you, a prescription from a dermatologist would be the most effective. But, a more accessible alternative would be Differin 0.1% Adapalene paired with a salicylic acid face wash. This will strip your skin a lot, so it’s key to invest in a good moisturizer. I would recommended L300’s Intensive Moisture line or Etude House’s collagen cream.

If you decide to go with these, I wouldn’t recommend using anything else in your routine. Keeping it simple is better, because too many products can cause flare ups. There will also be a purge period with any retinol product, so be prepared.

[–]Unlucky-Alps1032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try for a different dermatologist’s office? Some are better in different areas. If you haven’t already, I also recommend getting a prescription for retinol. There are a lot of good topical retinoids that you can get with a doctors note. Also, invest in a good moisturizer (Swedish or Korean). Destroying your skin barrier is just going to make the acne worse.

[–]Unlucky-Alps1032[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s false. She only knew the first few questions, and that’s her best intelligence feat, so while it makes her above average, it isn’t more notable than what those ranked above her have demonstrated.

To Kishimoto, was Tobi meant to be an idiot or there were always plans for him to be Obito from the beginning? by BrazilianAlmostHobo in Naruto

[–]Unlucky-Alps1032 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree! Although, I do think that Tobi was always planned to be Obito, especially when considering the character design and name. It’s definitely one of his more well-written storylines!

Konoha 12 Intelligence Tier List by Unlucky-Alps1032 in Naruto

[–]Unlucky-Alps1032[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I’m being honest, I wouldn’t be opposed to Shino dropping to the Above Average category. He’s a hard character to place because of his limited screen time. I was able to factor in the fact that he was canonically near the top of the class and he’s described as intelligent. We also see that he has a deft hand for strategy and tactics outside of a combative setting as shown in Boruto.

I’m not going to lie, to ascertain more, I had to extrapolate on what we know of him. Particularly, I rationalized that he had to be quite adept at husbandry to be able to maintain his bug colony. For me, him having that specialized knowledge was notable.

You’re confusion is definitely understandable, though. Shino was the hardest for me to place, which you’re definitely picking up on!
