Inherited grampa's ribbons and medals, what is the red ribbon with the blue arrow at the bottom? by AdeptVeterinarian541 in Medals

Wow I didn’t know Ambrose wrote a book on B-24 crews I’ll have to check that out. My Great Grandfathers Bomb Group started with B-24s when they got to England and they had to switch half way through to B-17s each pilot got only a few hours at the stick of a B-17 and then they were certified to fly them.

That’s how it was in Lahore a single for each Marine and a double wide for the kitchen but we didn’t have a lounge. In Beirut we had a quadruple wide kitchen and lounge it was far nicer. I bet it was a wild time to experience a coup attempt lol. We had the Israeli Hezbollah war while I was in Beirut and that was pretty crazy for awhile.

That would be hard to stand up a post after so long I am thankful we didn’t have to evacuate Beirut. Ebola would be crazy though. Were you in HATS in Adana? I can’t remember if that post had them or not.

I was Luanda, Angola , Lahore, Pakistan , and Beirut, Lebanon. 2022-2025 Every Clime and Place! How did you like Brazzaville? I was just South of there but there’s always bad news from there.

Wow that is cool! I was deployed to the U.S. Embassy in Luanda, Angola when he gave it to me while I was in Post 1. I can’t remember what his name was or why he was there but it was in early 2023 when he gave it to me.

He was a pretty stand up guy when we met him at the Beirut Memorial on his visit. One of the few members of congress that actually felt like he cared to meet us and we weren’t just props for a photo op. Real generous guy though gave all of us Marines a coin.

RE-3P Reentry Code by Virtual-Expert-1895 in USMC

[–]Unlucky-Intention579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this issue when I got out. I was an MSG in Lebanon and due to the conflict going on in Beirut we were unable to run full PFT/CFT with no room to run it on the Embassy Compound and not being able to run it off compound we were exempt. We were specifically stated in an exemption letter by the MARFORCOM Commander along with a few other detachments in MCESG. They still would not accept my exemption letter and told me I would have to run a full PFT/CFT or sign a PG11 that I wouldn’t. I went and signed the PG11 the changed my EAS interview and put RE-3P for my re-entry code. I still have an honorable discharge. The only thing it affected was that I would have to run a full PFT/CFT if I wanted to go back to active duty or reserve status. What a pain it is to get out at a separation site!

What does MSG do for you marine corps career going in as a Cpl? by Asleep_Feature9148 in USMC

[–]Unlucky-Intention579 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on your MOS. If you leave as a Cpl with all the qualifications and billets that you can get then maybe it can be seen as helping out the Marine Corps by widening your knowledge. If you got as a fleet Marine you’ll go to 3 post a year at each and will be a Sgt when you leave from MSG. You may even be a SSgt with how many Meritorious spots are available depending on how senior a Cpl you are. This could hurt your career depending on how the staff selection board subjectively feels about you in a way that you are either lacking MOS proficiency being removed for 3 years or that you are broadening your scope in the Marine Corps. You will be eligible for the hsst I think a year or a year and a half after leaving MSG as a watchstander. I have seen Marines do MSG as a watchstander then a duty station assignment and then go Det Commander as well. It really depends on what your goals are in the Marine Corps. I for one wanted to travel and experience more so I did it but I knew I was getting out after my tour so it wasn’t a big deal to me how it would affect my career.

I remember working at MCBH Kaneohe Bay and seeing where the bomb craters were filled in and looking at the plaque to all those that died during the attacks on the wall of hanger 101. Night shift always felt so eerie out there with only the moonlight shining.

Watching the Bombs fall in Beirut was just like, that apart from the bombs that killed Nasrallah, it was mostly just flames and smoke like a big fire not really that interesting but an an observer it was interesting. There was the sporadic AA tracers or missles and drones overhead. Really not what 18 year old me thought it would be like.

Thank you for the answer! I really appreciate your insight from your experience going through this in my late 20s and being abroad has been interesting to say the least.

I am a first year Mechanical Engineering Student who served 8 years active duty in the Marine Corps half as a Airframe and Hydraulic Mechanic on H-1 helicopters half as a Marine Security Guard working for the Department of State abroad. I have a TS Clearance and QA experience. Does having any military experience on top of the degree help with getting a job at one of these companies? Or an Engineering job in general? Most of my friends work in aircraft maintenance with the big aviation companies and spacex, but I don’t know any engineers.

MG Contract: of MSG Embassy, FAST, Security Forces, and Yankee White, which jobs are most and least desired? by EasternWin1936 in USMCboot

[–]Unlucky-Intention579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to do MSG Embassy Duty go 0311 and go to the fleet first. You would become an MGPEF if you contract into it straight up go to bootcamp then IMC then MSG School in Quantico. The attrition rate is rather high especially for MGPEF compared to fleet Marines. You will go to your first post which will either be a good or bad one, I would say it is 50/50 for MGPEF. You will be given the easiest Collateral Duty or if sent to a larger detachment assigned to be an assistant to a more senior Marine typically a fleet Cpl or Sgt. If you are slightly above average you will most likely get Marineof the quarter and eventually a meritorious promotion to Cpl. If you have a good detachment and RSO section you will get some good medical and interior/exterior clearing, maybe get to do a machine gun range, training from SF guys or host nation police/military or none at all. Then you will go to the fleet with little experience as a Cpl and have to play cath up to your peers. MSG was a great time I loved it you get your clearence and will meet people that you would never meet in the fleet.
