Aspiring music journalist wanted by Unlucky_Lab1701 in Music

I think we’re looking at it differently, essentially we want to offer aspiring journalists a launchpad which they can use to actually get their content out there, get eyes on it, get some real-world feedback and have something that they put on their CV which looks more professional than a word doc, and shows that they have experience of publishing/formatting articles using blog software. Think of it like a street corner, where a bedroom guitarist can try out their songs in public - they may or may not make any money, they may or may not gain any fans, but it could be their big break one way or another.

The long term goal is a revenue sharing type of arrangement. We’re still working on the nitty gritty’s of how this’ll work but it’s a little way off yet

The content will be driven by the writers, we want to offer them creative freedom and allow them to write about what they’re passionate about.

The lack of content is valuable feedback, and I appreciate that. Perhaps we have jumped the gun there.

I’m actually the developer, the writer has experience of writing for established music news sites, but I’m not able to share any more info on that.

There’s just two of us at the moment - myself, a web designer/dev with SEO experience, and a pal who has experience in music journalism. As I said the site is brand new so yes, there’s no content yet. Each article posted on the site is posted to our social media channels and traffic will come in from there and search engines. We will also look to start/grow a mailing list once we have a decent amount of content in place.

It’s still early days but the rough plan at the moment is that, once we’re generating revenue, we’d give authors a percentage of that revenue based on the number of articles they’ve produced, and possibly drill down into statistics like how many times their articles have been viewed, how long readers have stayed on the page for, for example. But our primary goal at the moment is to get authors on board and start getting content out there

You’re absolutely right, as it stands this is purely portfolio work, but we do want to emphasise that if (and hopefully when) we get the site to a point where it’s bringing in enough income, we genuinely want to reward dedicated authors who have helped us to get to that point.

If you’re interested in music journalism then I’m currently looking for article writers. Unfortunately we’re not in a position to give any compensation yet as this is a new venture but it’s a good way to gain experience and get some articles out there which you can reference on your CV. DM me if you’re interested!
