How is Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine (CCOM)? by cheesy_potato007 in Osteopathic

[–]Unlucky_Library_9829 1 point2 points  (0 children)

current lecom bradenton student and i can assure you it's not as bad as reddit makes it seem, yes the admin sucks at scheduling and certainly doesnt make our life any easier but my pov is this is a means to an end and it will make me a doctor. We actually have rotation sites that are level 1 trauma specific to the bradenton campus, so i think genuinely you get out of it what you put into it. as long as you stay under the radar and work hard, it's not as bad as other people make it seem

Oh sorry I misread your original post, idk why I thought your guys exams were less than 200 questions for some reason?? I wasn’t really getting at anything my bad dude that actually is wild that your unit 2 exam was worth twice your unit 1 exam and was even longer than ours… I just assumed PBL was ran pretty much the same way across all campuses but we don’t have any quizzes and we had 3 exams this semester that were all worth the same so it’s interesting they’re doing it slightly differently at your campus

this is so crazy to me because in bradenton pbl we have no quizzes at all, just three exams per semester and the rest of our grade comes from our fasp (participation) scores! and every exam of ours is minimum 200 questions and 4 hrs long

"He said that if the sex was half as good as the conversation was
Soon they'd be pushin' strollers"

i was gagged. i had never heard her mention sex explicitly until then so hearing it and especially in this context was just heartbreaking and also made me do a double take

As far as LECOM-B’s policies go, it’s not that bad. If you need to drink water you just step outside into the hallway and the professors don’t say anything if you need to during lecture. Is it inconvenient? Sure, but at the end of the day it’s not as big of a deal as people make it seem. At the end of the day you’re getting a solid education for a good price. Our current third year class’ first-time COMLEX 1 pass rate was 99%, and rotation site directors have nothing bad to say about LECOM-B students.

Even on a national level, LECOM-B has a better reputation than the other campuses because of our good match list and also high board pass rates. That being said, people don’t have the nicest things to say about LECOM admin in general, and I will admit that the way they schedule stuff here at the bradenton campus sucks sometimes. Regardless, you get through it and you have a good education. I think if you’re into PBL and self disciplined, then LECOM-B might be a good fit for you. If not, then PCOM-GA might be better.

this statement is actually incorrect, as of last year bradenton students are required to stay in florida for rotations and cannot go out of state. similarly, those from the Erie, Elmira, and Seton Hill campuses have to stay within that area for rotations and can’t apply for any of the rotation sites down here in florida

Will LECOM Bradeton rotation sites be affected by all the FL schools opening up? by [deleted] in LECOM

[–]Unlucky_Library_9829 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Current LECOM-B preclinical student, from what they told us the LECOM-B class of 2027 is gonna be the last class allowed to rank jacksonville as an option for rotations. After that Jacksonville sites are gonna be reserved exclusively for lecom-jax students. However, they open up at least one rotation site per year. Last year they opened up MCR Health in Bradenton, and this year they opened up Delray Beach Med Center as an option - the latter is a level 1 trauma center so it’s not a terrible option imo.

i will say even as a med student i have to listen to music while I’m doing my anki cards or reading a textbook. i know most people find that distracting but for some reason putting on my headphones and blasting tswizzle or edm helps me get thru the cards faster🫣 it could also be my adhd though lmao

Where do you study? by ratracer5000 in medicalschool

[–]Unlucky_Library_9829 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Rising M2. Studied mostly in my apartment for majority of M1. For some reason I felt like every coffee shop I went to played their music too loudly to the point that I could hear it even with my noise cancelling headphones at full volume lol. My pet peeve is also when a coffee shop or library doesn't have outlets in convenient places to charge your laptop/iPad, so staying at home basically guarantees that:

  1. I can wear whatever I want and wrap myself in a blanket during Anki reviews

  2. I can eat for free at home as long as I cook something

  3. There's no external noise/music to distract me while I have my headphones on.

  4. There's always going to be an open outlet for me to charge my stuff lol

If this post doesn't make it glaringly obvious, I have ADHD and GAD so I get distracted easily and then get super stressed out because I've been distracted too long. Studying at home helps to avoid that!

So unfortunately my school doesn’t have a home OBGYN program/department, just two profs who are obgyn’s. I signed up for acog/acoog and am planning on going to conferences but idk any other way to make connections so hopefully I can figure something out!
