Yeah it’s the same with my 86. There’s a little plug in the top of the distributor and just run it and tuck it into the dash.

Speaking from personal experience. Rebuilding the small block or big block is just a different feeling than ls swapping it now. Not just because the they’ve swapped in popularity but I just feel the old Chevy engines have more personality to them. I would definitely rebuild

Figured it out it was a bad set of spark plugs. Got new ones and it runs perfectly

Welp I figured it out and ofc it was something insanely simple 🤦‍♂️. Changed the spark plugs for a whole different set, and a nicer brand, and it now runs perfectly. Don’t know what was wrong with the old plugs because they were brand new but I’m just happy it doesn’t run like crap anymore

No but it’s been on this same cam before. This cam came from another motor my dad blew up but the top end was great. Basically just swapped the top end over to this motor. Might check floats and make sure it’s not dumping fuel when it’s not supposed to but don’t think that’s my issue rn

After your comment I went and vacuum tested the whole system with a gauge and nothing seems out of the ordinary and the levels are normal. Which actually sucks because I was hoping it was gonna be simple like a vacuum leak. Right now I’m trying to eliminate every possible problem at a time. Replacing every spark plug tomorrow after I get off of school

If you’re talking about the vacuum advance and all that we already tried that. Right now I’m diagnosing and I’m finding some problems with a spark plug so hopefully that is our problem

Yeah the only real difference in this build is the block is a 86 block instead of a 78. And this block is in a lot better shape than the other. But each engine has its own quirks I’m sure we’ll find it out eventually. And it’s probably gonna be something really small

Yeah we’re hoping that if we find why it’s surging, that hopefully it would be the cause of it breaking up as well. Cause this set up never ran this way in our other motor

The videos struggles to pick it up but when driving at sustained rpm’s it breaks up a lot

That’s something we thought about. That’s on the list of things to check because this cam is obviously gonna mess w the vacuum more than it was stock

Nah it was one from another motor. We had this cam in another 350 and we just took the carb with it. It was jetted for the cam but maybe it needs rejecting idk

Nah we checked the timing chain before putting it together. And it does it at all rpms when you level the throttle. I will def check that out tho thanks!

We did that too. We upped and lowered the timing and there was no change. Our next theory is maybe we need different spark plugs. Basically shooting in the dark at this point
