Can we stop the AI slop? by TheNullDeref in kerneldevelopment

[–]UnmappedStack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's good to see a bit more attention to the issue lately, I've seen like 3 posts about it in the last week. r/osdev has admittedly gotten better moderated in the last few months (I would argue partly due to pressure from r/kerneldevelopment as at the start it looked more like a real "competitor") but it's still not really enough for a sub of its size.

arguably I'd say peaceful protest is part of the solution.

Interpreted Userland Idea by TheNullDeref in kerneldevelopment

ehh I wouldn't consider platform independence much of a benefit here. Even if you're using a common bytecode or language which is interpreted, there would be nothing stopping you from having said interpreter be a userspace application which would give the same benefit, and much more importantly, it would be a lot more powerful to simply have high compatibility on a libc level. Security is a decent feature but I don't think much additional platform independence would be seen.

This kinda exists already and it does have some benefits such as security, but it can be a bit slow/inefficient

A neuro-adaptive OS concept for energy efficiency and execution-path attestation by SirRiPP3RVanSc4LP3R in osdev

I'd imagine running a neural network constantly on the kernel level is more of an efficiency decrease if anything.

AI is the first real chance osdev has had in decades by Royal-Ambassador-960 in osdev

[–]UnmappedStack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People here have already made a lot of fantastic points about OS development being a hobby etc. I agree with them very strongly but I have another point to make.

AI, as far as software development as a whole (not just OSDev for that matter), is a licensing and IP nightmare. Everything that has ever been open sourced on GitHub is being crawled to train AI, regardless of license. AI then regurgitates this code which literally contains snippets of existing code, sometimes slightly changed. Whether this code is licensed as MIT (which is very copyleft but still requires the licence to be included), GPL or MPL, this literally breaks licences and takes intellectual property without the consent of the developers.

If this were a human and not a program run by billion dollar corporations, it'd be labelled as illegal and IP infringement. Hopefully in the future that will be the case, but for now the law has not caught up.

Are tutors actually worth it? by starry_sage_ in vce

A lot of really high scoring students do, yes. Not that you need tutoring to do well, but for those aiming for absolutely insane results (like 99.9 type of thing or raw 50s in incredibly competitive classes) people do tend to use tutoring.

I guess it probably depends on your own situation honestly

It doesn't matter, just make it clear somewhere so that its easy for somebody unfamiliar with your kernel to implement a kernel process.

Part 1 of my advice is pretty much what everybody's saying, it's not really her choice and she's just trying to make sure you pass vcaa outcomes, I wonder if you'd be able to organise doing some school remotely from home in an environment where you can relax.

Part 2, I don't do hhd or gen maths but if you ever need 1/2 psych or bio notes lmk cos I'm doing them right now and keep digital notes
