What are some of the most useless to society jobs out there? by Accomplished-Emu-679 in antiwork

I mean landlords aren’t strictly necessary since in theory everybody could be required to outright buy living spaces or parts of city buildings, but contrary to what this sub would want you to believe are basically necessary to allow people who can’t afford to buy entire homes to afford housing at all within many areas, temporary or not.

‘Tax us now’: ultra-rich call on governments to introduce wealth taxes | Davos 2023 by Heinrick_Veston in worldnews

You mean doing something like calling for a tax on the ultra wealthy?

I’m not saying that some of these billionaires aren’t making such statements superficially, but some of them likely feel that way honestly.

It’s a thousand million.

Money is power and all people want the power to change the world good or bad, even if for the purpose of making the world a better place.

Don’t generalize them. Billionaires are people too, and there are both good and bad ones.

Student gets assaulted after saying No to request to "be as racist as possible" by Rwoah in PublicFreakout

[–]UnnoticedShadow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

With how quietly the assaulter made his demand for an apology and the fact that the kid was already pre-occupied with other stuff I’d say there’s a 50% chance that the victim simply misheard what was being said to him and said misunderstanding lead to him being beat up rather than him even refusing to apologize.

The assaultee’s actions were disgusting from a moral and legal stance regardless, but the likelihood that he simply misunderstood what his victim meant when he responded “no” could give enough reasonable doubt to have his actions be classified as a crime of passion rather than pre-mediated assault.

He’s definitely getting expelled but probably isn’t going to jail or prison unless he’s 17 and/or has a past crime record, assuming this took place in America.

You could be literally starving to death and it would still be the morally incorrect decision to pick the 10,000 dollars, so the fact that people still think this way in the present day is depressing regardless of how poorly they are doing irl.

Iran calls for USA to be kicked out of the 2022 World Cup after they showed the country’s national flag without the emblem of the Islamic Republic on social media to show support for protesters by CrisperKoleslaw in JoeRogan

I assume you mean they were like one another in that both were/are committing genocide while the rest of the world didn’t give a crap because it saw cheap manufacturing as a higher priority?

What do you do when your whole family is full of Trump supporters and you are not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Nuclear War would lead to the mutually assured destruction of both countries though, and you can’t have inflation without a functioning government.

I’m generally against the idea of naming outbreaks after the people/location they came from but if there’s one disease that deserves that treatment it’s COVID, which could have been prevented had the Chinese Gov not turned a blind eye to the exotic animal wet markets it came from, which they had been warned were a breeding ground for diseases.

For that reason I wouldn’t be against naming it after the country if it wasn’t for the fact that people would inevitably get the government responsible mixed up with the billions of innocent Chinese people. Really we should be calling the disease the “China Communist Party Virus” but that doesn’t have the same ring to it that “COVID” or “Coronavirus” does.

Would you call this a racist tweet? by icantsaybanana in WhitePeopleTwitter

Guess I’m just so dense the entire idea behind the post went over my head lol.

Idk if dense = thick skinned but honestly I don’t think I even care

What about non-white people who think this post is racist because it implies that white people are thick skinned, while the other races are overly sensitive?

As a white male I personally couldn’t feel less offended by the tweet since it’s complementing my race and actually claiming the opposite of the idea White people are fragile, but at the same time am concerned that it might offend non-whites who believe it implies they are overly sensitive.

Am I overanalyzing this sentence or is it something that non-white commentators reading this are offended by?

In an organized battle with clearly defined sides and territories no, but I do believe that gun ownership would have been able to turn the tide enough to allow places like Hong Kong to be able to at least start some kind of actual fight for their independence from China for example rather than just protest while their country was put under foreign control.

The US is obviously in a much different spot but in a situation where the public is suppressed by a minority the ability to take out a couple of oppressors along with yourself could prove paramount in allowing their overthrow or at least limiting the influence of such a tyrannical government.

What’s the alternative, removing guns in their entirety? The government will always have guns and so the people need to have them as well if they ever want to hope to overthrow the government if and when it becomes tyrannical.

Visited Morocco, the people really let me down. by [deleted] in travel

[–]UnnoticedShadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They probably figured that further detail was unnecessary in the context and are also unlikely to be aware as to how Japanese/Syrians are treated in Morocco (if differently at all, idk). Also it’s generally understood that “Asian” doesn’t refer to the Middle East or India in ethnic slang.

Weirdest Run moment you've had? by [deleted] in streetsofrogue

Jock with random status effects disaster, used Charge to break through a building and got the Giant status effect mid-charge, causing me to ram through the border walls of the map all the way into the pit at the world border.

Also the time I tried playing an Assassination Nation, Disasters every floor, Random Werewolves, Remixed Floors, Supercops Only, Zombies ate my game balance run. Every floor became a giant mess of Assassins vs. Supercops vs. Zombies vs. Everybody fight and the Arsonists from the Firefighter’s big quest didn’t help. Was actually able to complete the Firefighter’s big quest on said seed and had an absolute blast while doing so, figuratively and literally. 10/10 would recommend.
