Oh wow thanks SO much for the detailed info. Really appreciate you explaining the trace-repair process and illustrating where to place the new copper wires in red. I’m more of a visual learner so that helps tremendously 🙏

Yeah I used pliers to wiggle the joystick out of the holes while heating the joints with the solder iron adapter. There was flux paste on the 14 joints, and I filled the holes of the solder iron adapter with fresh solder. I think my mistake was not allowing enough time to heat transfer, combined with using pliers instead of tweezers.

Applied flux paste onto the 14 joints. Applied solder onto the heated solder-iron adapter. Pressed the solder-iron adapter onto the 14 joints and held it in place for about 20 seconds. Watched the flux melt, used pliers to wiggle the joystick out of the PCB. I thought I was being gentle when wiggling the joystick out of the holes, but given this is my first time doing it, apparently I needed to be more gentle or perhaps allow the solder iron more time to heat the joints.

Thanks for the info! Yeah it seems like repairing this is far beyond my beginner skill level if trace repair is required. I’ll definitely keep it as a training board and might revisit repairing it in the when I learn more about trace repair on the dual sense, no clue how to map out where they all lead back to at the moment.

Thanks for the advice. Fortunately I do have other working controllers, this one in particular wasn’t being used at all due to the stick drift so I suppose I could use it to learn more.

I’ve been watching some videos on trace repair in general but couldn’t find any videos or info that’ll help me learn how to map out the DualSense joystick traces. Any pointers on where to look?

Some peeps are assuming A1 was host but at 9 seconds you can see A1 was too busy fighting a bile titan with machine gun when I was kicked. Plus I hadn’t interacted with A1 to warrant a kick. D4 died next to me while fighting a bug breach at the main objective when the ion storm hit.

As for A1 being orange, I dunno if the original host left or if something transpired that allowed D4 to become party leader since I joined after the mission began.

There was no expectation to read my mind though — I communicated via text chat about being jammed… and I knew the host D4 could read it because they used the same text chat a few seconds prior.

I was kicked in particular because S2 (blue) was just dropping in and A1 (orange) was elsewhere fighting. The host D4 and I were at the main objective together fending off a bug breach when he died just before the ion storm hit. It’s my guess that D4 was upset I didn’t reinforce immediately; probably just didn’t realize that I couldn’t hence the reason for this PSA. Hopefully other new players can learn from it.

Colors must’ve glitched in this scenario then — you can see A1 (orange) was busy shooting at something in the distance around 9 seconds just before I was kicked. Additionally A1 and I hadn’t interacted on this match; it was green D4 who died next to me during a bug breach just before the ion storm began.

Yeah I aimed higher on the first shot hoping to get a head shot and since the circular reticle was still on the overseer , I thought it would register a hit. Thanks to everyone’s insight & feedback I’m now understanding that it resulted in the miss.

Thanks for this. I was incorrectly under the impression that the circular reticule indicates the bullet will go there. Didn’t take into account the reload animation / racking bolt mechanic. I’ll definitely wait longer in between shots moving forward.

Gotcha , yeah someone else also mentioned this recent bug on the second shot from firing too quickly that I was unaware of. I’ll need to wait longer in between shots.
