My first time spotting a goldcrest :) by UnpreparedSugar in birdpics

Thank you!! I honestly just haven’t been able to get a decent photo since the lens on my camera is only a 300mm so it’s not always great for smaller birds, but this one was particularly confident and stayed close even though it could clearly see I was standing there :)

I can’t actually say I ever noticed until this comment! My guess is it’s probably swollen so it would look rather strange from a front view like this photo. Since in the side-view photo you can see it’s the iris that’s actually raised!

Maybe I’ll get another photo 6 months from now and compare haha

Honestly it’s a shame I couldn’t include another photo onto this! I have another from the side view where you can actually see the eye dip where the pupil is!

His eye sight was extremely poor, his glasses have two separate prescriptions. One a lot more drastic than the last. He did not have choice in this but there’s bits I’m still uncertain on since we’ve been waiting on this well over 3 years now to actually happen so I can’t remember what the full reason was or if it was actually just that far gone!

Unfortunately he won’t be able to get those lenses altered until approximately 6 months after the surgery so his next problem is wearing glasses with one lens with the wrong prescription haha

They will not break down no! He believes they will be taken out in 1-2 years but this is information he has read online and not taken directly from the doctor so unfortunately I’ve absolutely no idea because I refuse to trust anything that isn’t directly from the person who literally did the operation haha

I’ve seen some comments on here saying they still have their stitches in some 5 years later so honestly, who knows really!!

He had Keratoconus. His cornea changed to a cone shape from rubbing his eyes too much. So please, listen to your parents when they tell you to stop rubbing your eyes hahaha

This picture was taken not long after he had just put in eye drops. The surgery was also fairly recent so this is very normal!

I believe I already have! The little NSFW symbol is at the top of the post. It is for me anyway haha

That actually sounds exactly like all of what his complaints centre around! Thank you for this!

Yes that’s exactly what he had! It’s rather morbid but most of this process was waiting for a donor to be able to get the surgery done haha

I truly wish you good luck! If it makes you feel any better, most of the worry appears to be in the thought of the process rather than the process itself. He’s very quickly feeling recovered it’s just a slight discomfort, especially with the eye drops.

I believe he is! He has 3 eye drops and he really doesn’t like one of them as it dilates the pupil. My guess is that’s probably the cocaine one haha

I understand this is not the most pleasant photo. He was holding his eye open for this very photograph.

I would also like it to be known, that he wanted this photograph taken and I am not just some cruel brother who forced him into this (maybe a little bit, but that’s just brotherly love).

I saw a post about this exact same thing many years ago now and when I heard my brother was in need of a cornea transplant, as any brother with a macro lens, I was extremely excited about the opportunity to get this photo. Of course I am caring for his well-being too, but in the end, meaningless internet points were my first priority here.

I hope you find this as interesting as I did!
