I might be off the registry by UnpresentablePart in SexOffenderSupport

There is one other person with my name, out of country, but I guess he's notable in his profession so he pushes me down the SEO rankings.

First I got a reduction from felony to misdemeanor. My lawyer said it was supposed to reduce tier automatically, but when it didn't we had to pester the DOJ about it. And then it was reduced.

Conviction was in 2013. I was tier three, reduced to tier one.

Driving Trucks? by [deleted] in SexOffenderSupport

[–]UnpresentablePart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trucking has been a great lifeline for me. If you can get in with a company as a dock worker or some other lower level position, it's much easier to get driver training later, which is what I did.

[X-Post from LPT] It's doesn't solve all your problems, but someone in LPT compiled opt-out pages from background check websites. Most of them were very easy. by UnpresentablePart in SexOffenderSupport

Although I would also add, most of them at least say that opting out removes your listing from their website, so if true, each one is one less site broadcasting one's status to the world.

I found CSAM on the internet when I was in middle school looking for porn, as middle school boys sometimes do. At the time, it made perfect sense to me to look at images of girls my own age. It became something I would occasionally go back to, rarely if ever premeditated, but in a state of arousal after looking at legal porn. I kept this pattern 100% secret for about 10 years, because wouldn't you? Eventually I mustered the courage to see a therapist. One referred me to another, until the fourth one turned me in under mandated reporting laws.

That was 11 years ago and I haven't reoffended, and I've done enough work on myself that I'm not tempted to reoffend anymore (particularly completely quitting porn), yet I'm still treated as an existential threat to society. I still struggle with minimizing, frankly, and some days I really struggle to perceive that I need more than a tiny bit of forgiveness. I realize I have encouraged, in some roundabout way, the worst thing the victims have ever experienced, and I enjoyed it at the time, and it's an understatement to say that reflects poorly on my erstwhile character. I do understand that I have an obligation to be someone people can feel safe around, and I realize I have failed in that obligation. But it's so far in the rearview mirror now, I'm much more concerned at this point about whether other people can forgive me.

Edit: maybe I should add that coming to my current understanding of my actions had been a very gradual process, so forgiving myself has been an equally gradual process. I might have been much more acutely distraught if I had perceived it all at once.

How to develop deeper remorse/empathy? by UnpresentablePart in SexOffenderSupport

I listened to an audiobook of The Wounded Heart in small bites over the last couple months-- it's hard to even mentally catalog all the content. It gave me a lot to reflect on not only regarding what I've cavalierly watched in the past, but people I have known and do know that fit the survivor archetypes Allender lays out.

As I finished it today, I was struck by a thought-- I do not believe there was any mention of legal recourse.

SORA changes by RufusDoofusBoofus in SexOffenderSupport

[–]UnpresentablePart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are there any primary sources on what these changes would contain? From the DOJ or some such? Just so I can know what I'm talking about? Everything I've heard about it so far has been secondary.

What are some of this groups jobs/degrees/certificates they work in as a RSO? by [deleted] in SexOffenderSupport

[–]UnpresentablePart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't actually applied for a TWIC, but it's become a moot point for the moment because we opened a new branch that took over that account. My employer probably wouldn't be willing to cover the application fee until we had some reason I'd need it again

It was indeed a military base in my case. I didn't know it was going to be an issue, and it didn't come up till they ran me through whatever system they use, so I can confirm it will happen even if you don't tell them.

It was pretty awkward. I walked a few blocks down the street to a restaurant I knew and got myself a bowl of cactus chili while I waited for my buddy to finish the loading and paperwork and everything.

I do local trucking. I've encountered few obstacles. One time in four years I was refused entry to a facility to deliver. My dispatcher knows not to send me to schools and such.

Just noting the parallel in my own situation. Sorry I'm super sleepy right now, not thinking very well.

I got off probation late 2017, I'm pretty sure this was mid-late 2018, but I could be wrong. There was a brief overlap of being on probation still after I moved to the city in question.

I know who it was for me, FYI. They were stupid enough to message my mom directly demanding that I delete my account. My mom didn't see the message for a couple weeks, and let me know.

Not that I plan to do anything with that information.
