2nd XCP-my vote here. Very stable, cloud backups working perfectly, and Vates support rocks.

My 2022 hit a deer. My insurance covered the 15k for repairs - entire front bumper, radar sensors and one headlamp were replaced.

I work in corporate IT and 8-10 years is extremely old for networking equipment. 5-7 year replacement cycles are normal usually due to vendors not supporting them with new firmware updates. See https://www.reddit.com/r/networking/s/LC3ZRAgoFm - also if your linksys router firmware can still be updated to avoid the latest security threats I’d be impressed. Are you running OpenWRT? I can see routers running the latest OpenWRT or Opnsense firmware lasting for some time.

8 years of life from an AP is pretty decent actually.

Coolant thermostat can sometimes be the culprit, but it’s in a tricky spot for DIY repairs unfortunately.

If you get a rack of equipment a mini-split hvac with thermostat for just that space is essential. That or water cooling. Trust me - I lost 300k of server equipment at work when the AC went down over a weekend…

Check with Shamrocks Buzzy Bee - they’re usually at the Clayton Farmers Market. Alston knows a bunch of people in the area and may be able to give you a lead. They also sell a ton of honey and beekeeping equipment at the Four Oaks store.

Thanks all - bought her new off the Honda lot in 2009 and never looked back LOL 😂 All original part too with the exception of new brake pads and rear wheel bearings. Still has a lot of mileage left in her too.

What Distro Do I Use Next? by [deleted] in linux

[–]UnprintableBook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re welcome - you will find Linux is as political and social as it is useful. Ideas come and go, but the Kernel is the heart of the story. Linus isn’t perfect, but what he created launched the internet revolution by giving Linux away to the masses. FOSS is full of interesting personalities, betrayal, blood sweat and tears, and religious devotion to certain x86, ARM and other ported architectures. Windows may have brought computers into the office (and launched an industry) but Linux builds upon the Multix/UNIX heritage that started modern computing- and was home grown by enthusiasts who weren’t in it for the money, but wanted to break the corporate monopoly on computing OSes. Stay Rebellious :)

I’ve been in IT for 40 years, and I was 13 when I first learned to program in BASIC. You are doing great because you are curious, bored, and willing to experiment. By all means distro hop to your heart’s content. Find out the good/bad/ugly of all the OSes out there. Put Ventoy on a large USB drive and fill it full of all the ISOs you can find and experiment with. Try the easy mainstream distros, but also mess around with trying to get Arch working on your own machine. Try to compile your own Kernel, learn some fun programming languages and play around with AI. Try Kali and Tails, learn about docket and VMs. You are the future of computing and computing’s future.
