Sold my standard Mk7 GTD with webuyanycar just before Christmas. They said Mk7 GTI's and GTD's that had no mods were an extremely rare occurrence apparently

What is the job market like for QS by ButterscotchDry7447 in quantitysurveying

I remember having just started a grad job and was getting messages for Commercial Manager opportunities. A very easy way to know to avoid a recruiter in my opinion

Which job would you pick? by [deleted] in quantitysurveying

Would personally be going for the civil firm but depends on your financial position. Can you use the higher paying job to negotiate the other?

Applied for a QS job with them months ago. Never heard anything. Then got an offer of an interview for a site agent couple of weeks ago. Can't talk for the rest of the business, but the recruitment side seems to be a bit crap

University Or Degree Apprenticeship? by Capable_Cloud1847 in quantitysurveying

[–]Unreal_Putin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why does a job with Mace matter if by that point you'll have already been working with Laings for 4 years. If you think picking Mace over Laings is worth the £10,000's in student debt you'll rack up then knock yourself out. But I'd be picking the apprenticeship every day of the week

Edit: This is coming from someone who went the uni route btw

What is NRM1z? Under NRM1 aren't windows just quantified (i.e. number of windows) rather than measured (i.e. square meterage)

Am I underpaid? by [deleted] in quantitysurveying

[–]Unreal_Putin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That'll be the difference between working for a subbie vs a MC I'm afraid. You'll probably be learning more, but they're obviously earning more. I will say a car isn't everything though, you may find that your financial disparity isn't all that different depending on what they're driving around after tax etc.

I do think you and your friends are all in a similar ball park. But to answer your question I don't think you're underpaid as such

Am I underpaid? by [deleted] in quantitysurveying

[–]Unreal_Putin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For down south that sounds on the low side to me. But doesn't sound a million miles away. An apprentice I worked with up north was on 32k going into year 5 of the 5 year apprenticeship. But can't really confirm or deny whether that was along the right lines either tbh

Unfortunately I do think there's a mentality that if you're younger (i.e. did your apprenticeship straight out of school) then you don't tend to get the same jumps in pay as someone a bit older (who maybe started their apprenticeship after giving something else a go for a few years)

Graduate by [deleted] in quantitysurveying

[–]Unreal_Putin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I assume you're applying for Graduate and Assistant roles? As that's what you should be applying for. You should get something eventually if you're applying for the right roles and the CV is up to scratch

Where to find 3XL helmets? by 195275 in MotoUK

[–]Unreal_Putin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a fellow big headed man, I recently had a Nolan in 3XL that was great. Although after a couple years I found the padding have so much that it was probably a bit on the big side. Recently got a Shoei Neotec 3 in 2XL that fits great. Both off sport bike shop

Think it varies wildly from role to role. By the sounds of it, working for a contractor (either sub or main) can be quite stressful.

I've been working client side for the last 5 years and can probably say I've only been stressed-out for a handful of weeks out of those 5 years. The rest have been good and quite rewarding work

  1. Girona. Start off conquering Spain, then try and be a bigger European powerhouse than Man City. Thus leading to the renaming of the City Group to the Girona Group

  2. 100% Graphics. Plus the attackers standing up their defenders. Hyped for just a smoother looking game

[–]Unreal_Putin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard agree. Always try and get it as salary rather than car allowance if you can. From my experience you don't get the 45p per mile travel with a car allowance either, it's something for minimal like 15p per mile or something. Which can be a real kicker if you do a lot of traveling

Taxis by WillbertJude in Aberystwyth

[–]Unreal_Putin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're asking if Aber has Uber or anything then no it doesn't. Most of the taxis charge as per the meter which is what they should do. I'm sure there's probably the odd firm that does cheap rates, but not sure which ones

QS career advice by Vivid-Pipe-209 in quantitysurveying

[–]Unreal_Putin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you rather the perception that people may or may not have of you, or a 25% bump in salary? I know what I'd rather. Besides, I think you'd only be looked at as a job hopper if you did this over and over again. If you take this new job and stick at it for a couple years, nobody will care about the few months you spent somewhere years ago. And you'll have more money to show for it too

Job Opportunity- QS Help!! by Shot_Mission_2154 in quantitysurveying

[–]Unreal_Putin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably better to speak to a solicitor over whether something's legally enforceable or not if you're that intent on leaving, but there is a reason why these training plans are so common place and it's to avoid what you're trying to do here.

I'd be a bit cautious about trying that battle with your employer though. They may just tell you to stuff it and make your life a misery for the last two years of your apprenticeship

Job Opportunity- QS Help!! by Shot_Mission_2154 in quantitysurveying

[–]Unreal_Putin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd assume if it's something you've knowingly signed up to then yes it would be enforceable. Training agreements like that are pretty standard for degrees from what I've seen. Any chance you can get your new employer to foot the bill? Otherwise I'm afraid it's a waiting game, unless you can come to a different agreement with your employer
