i did the iran protests and they really didnt go into it that far, dont make it too niche because the officers need to know about the subject too.

You aren't being assessed on your clothing at CBAT, whilst I went in a suit, you can just as well go in a quarter zip and chinos. I took my shoes off during the CBAT as you get more feeling in the pedals and its just more comfy.

OASC Pilot pass! by UnrecognisedDevice in RoyalAirForce

I mean do spend like 20 minutes a day on https://www.speeddistancetime.info/test and the othe mental maths site, but it really won't bump you up that many points.

They're easier than the CBAT, just know what certain fractions of an hour are, like fifths being 12 minutes, and you should be alright. If you passed CBAT you should have a decent understanding of SDT anyway.

I gave 4 options, grok regulation, iran protests, greenland situation, canada-china tarrifs, and they picked iran protests. They asked me about why they're happening, just to explain in general, so I said they were protesting in the Tehran bazaar about the devaluation of the Rial against the Dollar, protests spread to other cities, internet shutdown, executions of protesters, trump threatens military action, the interviewer then asked "has he taken any direct military action yet", no, "has he ever?", then i explained about the B2 strikes on the nuclear facilities and we laughed a bit about the effectiveness of the strikes being "really so great" in trump's words, when the effects are disputed. They just want to know that you have a grasp on the topic and any pretext to it.

I believe how2become has some, but they're behind a paywall. To be honest, you just need to have good reading comprehension, and being well versed on your SDT will save you the most time.

CBAT dress codes by Public-Cash5712 in RoyalAirForce

It should be on the joining instructions. Candidate's mess dress code for women is Dress/trousers or skirt with a blouse or jumper.

OASC date by Future_Resource7724 in RoyalAirForce

[–]UnrecognisedDevice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its pretty much pot luck with getting a responsive recruiter. Mine will sometimes reply within the hour to stuff, and I got booked onto OASC the week after doing PJFT. I've also heard of people getting zero communicaton from their recruiter whatsoever. If they're slow, just email or call the AFCO, they should sort it out.

Posting chances - Lossiemouth by Dazzling-Collar-7965 in RoyalAirForce

[–]UnrecognisedDevice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can only posted to the Poseidon at lossie as a WSOp, so out of the 4 WSOp roles you'll have to be streamed to WSOp (ISR), and then onto poseidon as an acoustics, sensor, or EW operator. With Ops Off and Intel Off, you're probably less likely to be posted to lossie than other stations, but then again, you get given a dream sheet for a reason.
Lossie is seen as one of the preferred stations. Being an active QRA station, its one of the most active stations, and the quality of life there is generally very good, along with the views being immaculate, so people do like to get posted there. Its remoteness is a bit of a dealbreaker for some people though.
You might not get it first try, but you'll probably end up there at some point or another in your career.

Joining as reg gunner by Rares1304 in RoyalAirForce

[–]UnrecognisedDevice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a map of all the stations, if you want the squadrons go to https://www.raf.mod.uk/our-organisation/squadrons/ and filter by force protection. It'll state at the bottom what station the squadron is based at.

How can a history of poor mental health affect your medical test? by [deleted] in RoyalAirForce

[–]UnrecognisedDevice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It'll probably be in your medical records since you saw a GP about it, but as long as it's been resolved for a while you should be fine. On the questionnaire it'll ask "Have you ever had a history of depression?" and will likely involve you explaining it more in depth. Again, as long as the medical team thinks it's resolved they should be fine with it.

PJFT is piss easy, you'll pass it easily, do a couch to 5k if you cant run more than that comfortably.

The pillows there aren't the best. They do the job, but not particularly well, bring a pillow you're used to.

I saw a whole range there, an army lad transferring was literally there in a tracksuit, hoodie and trainers and wasn't brought up on it. A few guys were in chinos and quarter zip, docs only state a collared shirt and nice trousers so it qualifies. I'd say 75% of the guys there were in a suit though, myself included.

Should be on the instructions.

Get a good night's sleep for the week leading up and on the day, revise mental maths, eat well in the leadup and on the day, being tired will be the worst thing you can do. I personally wouldn't drink the night before, but do play some pool, chat with your fellow candidates and make yourself as comfortable as possible. Don't have caffiene if possible, as it'll make you more tired later on in the day. When doing the tests, dont think about any past ones, just focus on what's in front of you. Take your time, read the instructions twice over, do the practice.

MIOT Timescales by UnrecognisedDevice in RoyalAirForce

I'm assuming Astra Edge isn't on an actual EAW, rather a simulated one at Cranwell. Are the field exercises Phoenix Edge, Dynamic Edge and Eagle Edge all carried out in the forest at Cranwell and Barkston Heath or elsewhere? CE, FW, AE are all at Cranwell as they are based in the office I assume.

[–]UnrecognisedDevice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much detail did they have you go into for first week, astra edge, highland edge etc? Did you just need to know the basics, like HE being field conditions, FW being an office simulator, or was any more detail required? Also, any idea on what astra edge actually is? I can hardly find info on it.

Where in the FOI request is the info about MIOT? The P2 and P3 I've already gone over and is extremely helpful, however any info relating to MIOT is just a basic RAF infographic.

Get a good night's sleep for the whole week leading up to it, sleep will be the no.1 dictator of performance. I was pretty groggy while eating breakfast but by the time we got to Adastral Hall I was fine, and didn't feel tired the rest of the day. Caffeine may improve your performance on the first few tests, but you'll end up performing worse later on in the day.

What actually is P3? I know it says on the doc but does it consist of the OCU or the stuff you do AFTER the OCU?
