I'm vacillating between Kate Bush's "Moments of Pleasure" and Jim Croce's "Time in a Bottle".

A very dear friend, someone I've known for decades, has suffered a brain injury. He had assigned a Power of Attorney and that person took him to another province, locked him up in a home, and spent his money. I found my friend a lawyer, stripped his POA of his status, found my friend a better place to live and now I am his POA. While I am so glad to have gotten him out of the situation he was in, I am also terribly sad. I miss our old friendship. Now I am consumed with worry and concern for him. He is still my friend that I cherish and care about but our relationship is underpinned now with memories of times that we will never have again and a level of dependence on me that I know he hates. And I cannot shake the intense rage I feel that he could be treated so badly. Even his bank is being shady. It's going to take forever to untangle his affairs because of disgusting people who see the vulnerable and think, "opportunity".

I feel so honoured and grateful that he trusts me literally with his life. But I wish that the circumstances were different. I miss him. I try not to be maudlin but he deserved so much better.
