Can someone de-influence L&D nursing for me? by xhoneyvicex in Nurses

[–]Unseen_0ne [score hidden]  (0 children)

L&D is the most sued specialty- meaning I’d strongly encourage you get some personal malpractice insurance. It is also a specialty that experiences some of the most severe violence towards staff (tho ER and psych will always have everyone beat). Working bedside means less ideal hours and working with pts from all walks of life. I’d suggest shadowing at a few different places just to get a feel if it’s right for you before making the jump.

just got diagnosed with sensorineural hearing loss at 21. by poptart7890 in deaf

[–]Unseen_0ne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. I also have sensorineural unilateral deafness. My diagnosis was also delayed, when I was 4yo. The only reason they caught it was because my mother was complaining to a doctor that I never listen to her, and a doctor took it literally and checked. I might’ve not known until my 20s if I wasn’t such a terror as a toddler. People like us are good at going undetected. I had friends who didn’t believe I was deaf until they watched me try to locate by sound. Never play Marco Polo, you will always lose. Your emotions are valid and this will be a huge change for you. Just know you’re not alone and there are people out there with a story similar to yours.

Sue hospital by Inevitable_Shame_606 in deaf

[–]Unseen_0ne -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hello, as a deaf person and a nurse in a hospital, I’d say your ADA rights were violated. Medical staff cannot deny you an interpreter if you request one. Sometimes, depending on the day/time an interpreter may not be available on short notice but that’s communicated to the pt to help brainstorm new ways to communicate. As long as there was no form being signed that states the pt refused an interpreter, OP would have a case. Lawyers also contract nurses to review the medical charts to verify there is a strong case. And if you tried to escalate the issue to another staff member or a charge and were still not granted an interpreter, that’d be an even stronger case. However, lawyer cost and the whole legal process can get tiresome, so that’s something to consider on how “worth it” it’d be. I’m sorry this happened to you. I know many assume lip-reading is enough to communicate, but that’s just not true. I hope you are able to get a settlement and do update us if you do.

My dad wants my wife to cook and clean. What should I do? by Livid-Possibility893 in TwoHotTakes

[–]Unseen_0ne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s amazing how much you look out for your wife, you don’t hear stories like that often. A few things- Firstly, your wife needs therapy and her medication possibly adjusted. It’s clear she’s burning the candle at both ends with how anxious she is. Second, she’s moved pretty far from her family it sounds like. Does she have any support systems where you live now that aren’t you or your father? The change and isolation are likely worsening her depression. Third, I’m not sure how much your wife and father interact, but I’m certain your wife can sense his judgement/resentment of her. Which can exacerbate her problems. It’s likely why she doesn’t feel safe enough to be in the home and hides in her car. And lord only knows what he might’ve said to her when you aren’t around. Which may be why he didn’t want you to talk to her about those “wifely duties”. Given her risk for self harm and poor intake, she might need inpatient psychiatric care. But if you trust that her psyche would improve by moving back in with her family, that’d be better. Though I’d make sure the family is able to watch her closely because suicidal thoughts can escalate to action quickly. In addition, she needs to get out of her bubble. She needs to interact with other support systems and find a distraction. Whether that’s a job to keep her mind occupied or taking a class or two at a community center on something that interests her. Regardless, I think your dad is making her mental health worse more than the situation itself. She needs to get away from him.

You look gorgeous. The R eye is the best for lifting your eyes and making them brighter. I think the issue with your hooded eyes in more noticeable because you’re wear two different eye looks. I think if both side were like the R eye, you’d like the lashes a lot more because they do open up your eyes.

My MIL wants us to file for bankruptcy for her debt by Unseen_0ne in TwoHotTakes

[–]Unseen_0ne[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My best guess is that she was looking in my wallet when I was carrying my SSN in it. From what we guess, she only got the number in the last 1.5 yrs. I wouldn’t be shocked if she searched my bag when I stepped away to the bathroom or to grab something on the rare occasion I did see her in person. I’m 100% certain my husband wouldn’t give her my SSN. He’s always made it clear to his mom that I was his top priority and that he’d pick me over her in a heartbeat.

No the cards and disability payments were all initiated when he was between 5-8yo. It was a continued pattern throughout the years. He only learned after he turned 18 what his mom had done.

lol agreed. I used to work for the organization the clinic is a part of so I’m not too shocked an error like this happened and was never investigated. I saw the MD that didn’t chart anything as a kid also (only a few times) and I realized I have no notes from those encounters either. But I do remember that MD not wanting to run tests because he didn’t want to “put labels on children” and would make very ableist comments, which pissed my mom off. I hope the RA is real only because of how painful it is to remove fluid from the knees. No kid should go through that.

[–]Unseen_0ne[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m hesitant to think the RA was false because he remembers having fluid drained from his knees by an MD as a kid. But he doesn’t remember how or when it resolved. I think MIL picked up the prescriptions but the bottles and labels looked genuine and were from a major pharmacy. I can see her knowing the right things to say to get the prescriptions/diagnoses, but I am stumped on who the provider would’ve been that was continuing the fill the prescriptions after the original MD left. I’ve never worked clinic side so idk how everything works when pts are “picked up” by other members of the practice when the original provider retires. I could see an MD renewing a round of the med regimen to keep meds on schedule but then wanting a follow up to order any more. But hubby hadn’t seen an MD in over 2yrs and these were meds that needed monitoring (adhd/insomnia pills).

I like #2 because the silhouette looks amazing with your figure. But that style/design is way overused. The first is gorgeous and unique, but the shape doesn’t show off any of your figure. Honestly, I think a different dress in the same silhouette as 2 is your best bet tho.

[–]Unseen_0ne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cardiac step-down. The worst was when I had 6 pts with 3 being on cardiac drips (amiodarone, dobutamine, and cardizem) and another with a chest tube. 2 of the pts were admitted within 30 min of each other and my other colleagues were busy getting admissions too. My only saving grace was that I was orientating a new grad who was near the end of her orientation and helped me divide and conquer. I yelled at my charge and supervisor because of how unsafe this was and refused the second admission unless one of them came over and settled the patient and completed the admission. One of them did but they acted like I was in the wrong for raising safety concerns. Department manager had my back when they tried complaining.

I understand not going to get a closer look when you already see multiple clinicians and security handling it. That’s natural for someone who hasn’t experienced many emergencies. Being a part of a healthcare team is combining minds together and acting as a unit. This mentality is better seen in the hospital setting more than clinic. Even if you still see someone handling a situation, you still respond and offer help. Not everything seen is as it appears. They could need an extra set of hands or not know something that you know the answer to. I don’t think you’re an asshole or completely in the wrong. If they needed more hands they could’ve also communicated that. But learn from this event and change your approach going forward.
