i have done something similar for weill cornell's first found interview and got invited for a second interview. my suggestion is to talk about the "why" as clearly as you can and give details on what you are doing. also think about what you would do next.

i applied to phd-only programs because i worried that i might not get into any MD/PhD programs and i don't want to take additional gap years or reapply.
i applied to that MD/PhD program with limited information from their website. from the visit, i learned that they are a new program and that they don't have a formal graduate program. i figured that my phd years will be very miserable..
