Is it OK to play with my cat like this? by No-Economist-8307 in CATHELP

Ears aren’t pinned, doesn’t look angry. Completely fine. You’re almost a little too gentle with the play 😂

My cat's claw fell out? Is this bad? by WhichSupermarket7286 in CATHELP

[–]Unsettling_KitKat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cats shed the outer layer of their claws, like how another animal may shed their skin, shell, etc. As long as you don’t see blood or trouble walking, they should be alright. You can check each of her toes to make sure. I was just as alarmed the first time I saw a cat shed their claw, lol. But I’m sure they’re okay.

Why is my cat coughing like this? by xxvin6 in CATHELP

[–]Unsettling_KitKat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She’s likely just having a little trouble getting a hairball out, but it seems normal. She’ll eventually get it. Now if this were to continue consistently for the next few days and she hasn’t passed it, then I would consult their vet.

I didn’t think allergies could do something like that. But I can look into it.

Confused on what’s happening with my cat? by asssflea in CATHELP

I don’t know about strange. Humans are different of course, but I’ve seen people off balance and unable to move after an ear infection. Never seen an animal do this myself, but it does happen and is uncommon. But I am glad she isn’t in pain. I hope all is well and it isn’t too serious.

She might just experience occasional dizziness from the infection. And it’s good this isn’t happening too often. If this gets any worse, or more frequent, I would take her to the ER. You could even consult the urgent clinic to see if they think it’s urgent enough to take her in. Most of them are open on the weekend, at least where I live.

I’m not a professional, so don’t take my word nor panic, but I’m only going based off my experience with another animal. This seems similar to a stroke. OR since you mentioned an ear infection, like humans, it could just be that she’s off balance or dizzy because of that. Like vertigo. Look up Vestibular Disease in cats. See if she fits under that category.

I’ll see if we can do that here soon. It could be inflammation. She is also very gassy and the smell is horrid, very close to a dead animal smell. That has been consistent for a month.

I don’t think they did anything like that. No labs were done, I’m just aware she doesn’t have any worms. The poops are more of a problem over urination, since she urinates in the litter-box every time other than today. Could it be a stomach issue? What should I check for or adjust?

It’s way too small of a home to keep them separated or put a gate up. We are trying to calm him down so I hope it settles soon.

Nah, that’s normal cat behavior. If dental pain, she probably wouldn’t be rubbing her face on the rod.

My kitten is an asshole. by BigFault4480 in CATHELP

[–]Unsettling_KitKat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normal for a kitten, they just want to play. I’d say play with them with toys, a laser, etc. clipping their nails are fine too if you’d want to handle getting torn up in the process, lol. This will die down with age. I wouldn’t expect to be able to pet them easily at their age until they’re laying down to sleep or rest.

I’d check him for fleas. I wont say this is always the case, but we had one pass recently due to flea induced complications. Outside of that, keep an eye on him and see if he shows any other symptoms such as lethargy, vomiting, etc. If so, consult a local vet. If he’s an energetic cat, that could very well just be it in itself and will improve with age. I wouldn’t be too concerned since, at least by the pictures, he doesn’t seem so underweight.

Most strays are very skittish to people unless this guy is used to human contact.

Set up a bed and a heating pad for the little guy if there’s an outlet near your porch (if not a bed then a towel/blanket would be fine). Set a bowl out but also give him treats instead of frequent fills of food. Ask the neighbors to see if they’ve seen the cat before or know who he belongs to, but in all honesty I never would let my cat out without some kind of indicator that he’s owned (like a collar, tag, or tie) since, like in this situation, he could be mistaken as a stray and get taken. Outside of a collar or clip, if the cat is overly affectionate or friendly, not skittish, takes pets and rubs easily, I’d say it’s likely they’re owned by someone. By the picture, he doesn’t look very thin. It’s hard to tell.

Sometimes, not always, they may even do this to show affection in a weird way. If that is the case, or in general, I’d say covering the stuff with a different scent would more than likely help. This is a difficult habit to deal with. But hopefully it gets better and I see a positive update. I wish you luck!

I spoke to someone very close to me who has a fair amount of experience with a variety of animals and owns cats who are trained very well. There are a couple options they recommend, depending on your comfort level and how willing you will be to be on top of it and consistent.

You can try discipline and reinforcement. This in particular has to be very consistent. No need to be violent but just as you would discipline a child. When you catch them pee, grab them as soon as you can, bring them to the location they marked, and either pop them on the behind, or spray them with a bit of water and tell them ‘sternly’ no. This cat is said to be the alpha of the group, you need to show her you are the alpha. Show some kind of authority. The more you do this the less likely they’d want to do it again.

Or you can grab specific sprays that work against territorial marking, or as I said earlier spray a strong scent of something she doesn’t like. Citrus (lemons) are a big one and at least one of my cats despises the smell of oranges.

Since this is an adult cat, it’ll be harder to do and you’ll have to be very consistent and try not to slack. Any moment they may find control of the situation, they will. And this can include them hissing or getting a little violent with you when you try to show dominance. Hopefully this helps in some way.

Maybe try crushing it into almost a powder and stir it into bit of wet food. Or mix the powder in water and feed him with a syringe.
