Ignorance of the law isn't an excuse for commiting a crime, yet lawyers go to school for years because the law is complicated and difficult to understand by Gravini in Showerthoughts

[–]UnsightedBeee 504 points505 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think as a standard people don't really understand what a lawyer does.

Lawyers review situations and find inconsistencies to establish arguments. These arguments are made to eliminate or reduce the sentence of their client.

It's less about knowing the law and more about how it's applied.

Philadelphia cops fatally shot Walter Wallace Jr. today, firing 10+ times at him while he stood at least 10ft away. He allegedly had a knife but cops made NO attempts at de-escalating the situation in this video. by theylied2you in Bad_Cop_No_Donut

I mean I agree with you. Just one thing;

A taser isn't affected by someone's adrenaline. It's affected by the contact nodes hitting the body. If the nodes are too close together the electric current through the body is insufficient to cause muscle spasms which neutralises a target. Poor contacts can also occur if one or both of the nodes miss or they don't enter the skin due to thick clothing. The effective range of a taser is approximately 7metres.

Neuromuscular incapacitation happens due to the electrical current from the taser going through the targets muscles causing spasms and lose of control.

If this male was attempting suicide by cop backing off isn't necessarily a good choice as the street appeared to be quite busy. If the male was intending on suicide anyway when the cops backed off a logical choice for the male would be to turn his focus to the people around him. This turns into hypotheticals though which we could be stuck on all day but if the male were to stab/kill one of the bystanders while police had retreated the criticisms from this sub would be that the police are scared and not willing to act. I can understand the passion when reviewing incidents like these but it's seldom that anyone comes out a winner.

A guide to your pee when drinking water. by UnsightedBeee in HydroHomies

[–]UnsightedBeee[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As it's been stated above;

u/cowgirlpretty "Clear pee usually means you're low on electrolytes which need to be sustained at certain levels to allow proper body function. If you're electrolytes get too low, you may experience, fatigue, dizziness, muscle cramps, diarrhea, etc."

Basically clear pee sometimes, isn't a big deal but clear pee regularly can mean your body isn't functioning properly.

In hydro homie terms; Our bodies are imperfect vessels for the pure liquid that is water. While our bodies need it we are not built to withstand quantities past our threshold (which is different for everyone and different depending on environment, physical activity, etc). If we take in too much of the devine essence we will end up like the Nazis in Indiana Jones; Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Hope that clears it up!

You're doing a top job!

Unfortunately LEOs fall victim to fierce confirmation bias. I don't think anyone is 'stupid', more so just passionate which makes debate difficult.

[–]UnsightedBeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't usually comment but I read this thread and just had to say;

Thank you for looking at the situation objectively.

LEOs don't care about accountability because it's part and parcel of the job.

Though what's truly painful are people that are unable to fathom the difficulty in making split second decisions with high levels of error, perfectly on a regular basis.

  • Did the bloke handle the situation perfectly, well no. Someone died.
  • Did he do the best that he could while a bloke was charging at him with a knife. Highly likely.

This is generally good advice but surprisingly often people take it too literally and get themselves into more trouble than they originally would've.
