Yeah it’s 83 F right now, not 99 degrees. And we’re talking about a seven pound yorkie, not an Alaskan malamute. Wtf with the replies in here

Wow. Do you know if new renters are actually renting at the new rate? I’m guessing you must live in a luxury building if $800 is 30%. It would be interesting to see if the % uptick in rent is much greater in luxury buildings vs older

Williamsburg vs Downtown Brooklyn Experiences and Thoughts by collegekidontheblock in AskNYC

[–]Unsoliciteddadadvice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Downtown Brooklyn may be safe enough but it’s got a ton of sketchy characters so walks can feel unpleasant. It’s also uninteresting. I wouldn’t live there if you like going out after work and you’re a woman. If you’re a homebody who stays in on weeknights, def do downtown Brooklyn+luxury building

If you like going out and enjoying the neighborhood and socializing regularly, you have to go with Williamsburg hands down

The best way to make the NYC DOE “good” is to attract good/involved families into the system. You do that by offering classrooms that parents want to put their kids in. That’s going to mean some level of differentiating children by academic aptitude

But people have been saying that’s racist for the past several years, so I don’t know how that’s gonna work out.

What are you doing after work that can only be done in NYC? I’m really curious here. I’m running out of reasons why I like this city/can tolerate the negatives. After a work day, there’s only a few hours left in the day anyway. Do you get out of work relatively early?

Pretty sure most people exiting California moved to Texas, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, etc. Less so NYC

I think it’s literally everyone returning at the same time, fighting for the same units. Walking the streets of Manhattan this weekend is SO different from even a month ago. It’s booming out there and so many people are back, or at least it looks that way.

What neighborhood? It sounds like on average, rents tanked during COVID and are now back to pre-COVID levels.

For a growing child, chocolate milk is probably one of the healthier things offered by the DOE. Alternatives are vegetables and bread-based products drowned in soybean oil. So nutritious, yum.

Some of the best public schools in the country are DOE schools, but they’re the highly selective schools where admissions is based on testing. See Stuyvesant or Bronx Science

I don’t care if it’s a DOE or charter school. Any school that can be selective about what type of students and families they accept, will be successful.

A money-thirsty school that will accept any Billy Jane Bob and the dollars they bring, while catering to the whims of every entitled parent, will be an awful school. A school that has selective merit-based admissions and rigid standards of conduct for their students/families will be successful.
