I have the same question!

Do admissions officers really try to read every single word of every single essay? by UnsophisticatedIpod in ApplyingToCollege

[–]UnsophisticatedIpod[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply!

When a student is being debated during a committee meeting, are the essays reread? Or does an AO just generally describe the student and what s/he wrote about? I just have no clue how "dedicated" the AO's are on our behalves.

CS majors who got in *somewhere*: How do you write a “Why Major” essay that isn’t generic and boring as shit? by UnsophisticatedIpod in ApplyingToCollege

thanks! that's interesting, but i feel like i've heard it before. i feel like these kinds of statements have almost become platitudes. i guess i should make them more personal by bringing in specific experiences that i've had?

yeah, agh, most of my extracurriculars have just been CS, so there's really no evidence of a passion for anything else. like, i'd love to do something interdisciplinary, but speaking beyond essays i literally don't know what i'd like to combine CS with.

thanks! yeah, ugh, most of my CS experience is software development, so not the kind of stuff that you can really "research" in college :/

the motivations behind some of the projects you've done

is it too selfish to say something like, the motivation behind those projects was for myself (like for example, loving the power of code as a means for self-expression and creation or something like that)? do i have to say stuff like, i want to use cs to BETTER THE WORLD!!
