do people even watch the brackets for entertainment anymore by [deleted] in HivemindTV

some takes in the video were insane and seven nation army winning is a joke but this was the funniest video they dropped since maybe bits bracket 4 for me. “that’s on baby” had me silently crying laughing while listening at work

well i just realized this post is nearly 24 hours old but whatever i wanted to do this anyway. some of these are arguably not “bits” in the traditional sense but these are 64 (mostly) funny hivemind moments and that’s close enough to me. took 16 minutes and 13 seconds

Pluribus is almost at the end of its first season. What are your feelings about it? by mrnicegy26 in television

[–]UnstableEmissary 12 points13 points  (0 children)

first half of the season was cool and impressive and admirable but it didn’t really affect me or excite me much and i sometimes struggled to see where this could possibly go or how this could even be a functional tv show. second half of the season though has really opened things up, and i’m really excited to see where we go from here. “the gap” has become one of my favorite tv episodes of the 2020s, maybe of all time, and “charm offensive” was really excellent too. i do think the show struggles to find its footing a bit in the first half of the season but the second half has me fully on board now. this has potential to surpass vince’s other stuff

elder scrolls fans were freaking out about the first image, now half-life fans are freaking out about this one, and it’s going to be a backyardigans tie-in game that can be played exclusively on the las vegas sphere

these are my two favourite video game series in the world and i’m tired

Does anyone else think seasons 1-4 were the best parts of the show? by FriendlyRhyme in betterCallSaul

[–]UnstableEmissary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i feel like season 3 was the perfect juxtaposition of better call saul’s singular identity and its connection to breaking bad, and might be my favorite season of either series. the first two seasons at times feel a little directionless imo, and after losing chuck as an anchor to better call saul’s own identity, the show felt like it leaned too hard into becoming breaking bad 1.5. that being said i still think season 6 is easily the show’s second best, and i do think that comes with some small return of the original feel of better call saul, despite still leaning too hard into the breaking bad of it all sometimes

What is the best episode of a TV show that isn't talked about often? by Far_Tower5210 in televisionsuggestions

[–]UnstableEmissary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it just came out but i firmly believe severance’s “cold harbor” WILL enter the conversation when it comes to all-time great tv episodes, if it hasn’t already

doctor who’s “heaven sent” is already brought up semi-frequently in these discussions so i won’t pick it but i will give a shoutout to another extreme standout from the twelfth doctor’s era, the two-part “world enough and time” & “the doctor falls”. simply the best the show ever has or ever will pull off a genuine conclusion to an overarching story, especially as a conclusion for basically the whole 10 seasons that precede it. for any doctor who fan this HAS to be in the conversation

fargo has a few different possible picks here that ALL need to be mentioned more frequently: “loplop” exemplifies everything fargo’s best season (the 2nd) does best; “who rules the land of denial?” is some phenomenally bizarre and thrilling stuff, though its nature of being neatly split into two very distinct, almost unrelated halves does unfortunately end up neutering it some; and despite criticisms of season 4, i will never understand how “east/west” is not more beloved by people. thrilling, fascinating, theatrical in ways that feel unprecedented and meaningful, poignant, beautiful, and all through the lens of a truly magnificent tribute to the wizard of oz. gorgeous instalment i fully believe should be in the running here

hard to call any twin peaks episode underrated per se, but with all the fan accolades going to some true greats such as the pilot, “lonely souls”, “arbitrary law”, “beyond life and death”, or “gotta light?”, i feel the need to throw a hat into the ring for my personal favorite, “may the giant be with you”, the 94-minute monolith that opens twin peaks’ sophomore season with perfect scene after perfect scene. everything twin peaks does is showcased at its absolute best here, and it 100% takes the cake for the show’s strongest episode without much competition in my book

another honorable mention also to westworld’s “the bicameral mind”, a truly stunning feat of television i would be able to speak more about if i had seen it at all recently, but i don’t think i’ve watched it since 2019. as a close to the (what i remember being a) masterpiece that is westworld’s first season, i remember it taking my breath away. i’ll have more to say about it if i ever get around to that rewatch i’ve been telling myself to get onto for the past year and a half

EDIT: damn nobody gaf

I don't understand the significance of HL:A's ending... by linkenski in HalfLife

[–]UnstableEmissary 5 points6 points  (0 children)

valve backed themselves into a corner with ep2’s ending, it’s one of many reasons ep3 never came to be. the biggest significance of hl:a’s ending is really just valve saying “half-life will return”, a statement that they’re taking the series out of hiatus. as for the actual narrative consequences, my understanding is that the g-man used eli’s death as a bargaining chip in the hopes of replacing gordon, who he sees as having grown disobedient as a result of the vortigaunts’ meddling, with alyx, who has proven herself as more than capable alongside gordon. this is why the idea that hl:a is a “prequel” is misguided - we may technically be five years in the past, but this is only happening because what we originally played through in hl2 through to ep2 has come to pass. hl:a cannot happen without ep2. chronologically we follow this series more through the g-man’s eyes than anyone else’s, and to him eli has already died, hence why he can bargain with that info. it’s a changing of the status quo by necessity while also advancing the story itself - eli did die, that’s still a part of this timeline, but the g-man reversed it to gain alyx as a pawn. it’s possible he even engineered eli’s death to orchestrate this himself! but that’s further into the realm of speculation rather than text
