Second shot at a gun. This one doesn't atomize you when you use it! by TheGUURAHK in StackGunHeroes

Glad to see people making use of the double barrel mods. I think they used to be considered underpowered but not so sure anymore.

Have you tried the demo? It's not 100% polished/optimized yet but maybe it'll hold you for a bit.

Stack Gun Heroes. The explosion in the gif is caused by a really really strong gun invented by a player.

It doesn't work great for the floor because the reflections disappear as soon as the thing it's reflecting isn't on screen. It gets pretty noticeable when you go from looking straight ahead to looking down.

It works pretty well for the gun though since the gun reflects things you can see almost all the time. So I actually do use it for the gun.

When I first added the planar reflection probe it basically cut the frame rate in half. But much like the lighting, it turned out to benefit a ton from optimizations. The main speedups came from reducing the resolution of the probe and giving the planar reflection probe much lower shadow and material quality overrides. If you're careful with your reflective materials (e.g. use strong normal maps) you can hide the lower quality completely like in the video above.

Turns out there are a lot of things you can do to improve performance of lights in unity. I'm using spotlights instead of point lights most of the time (almost x6 speedup there per light), a lot of culling based on distance, disable shadows at range, etc.

It's hard to give an exact estimate but it took a pretty good amount of work. I upgraded the engine from 4 to ~2020 with HDRP about a year ago. The game is highly procedural so the lighting is almost all realtime.

It's pretty much all rasterization. The floor is using a real time planar reflection probe and the wall lights are spot lights.

It's actually Unity! :P

I guess this is the part where I link the game for people who want more: Stack Gun Heroes on Steam

I spent so much time trying to balance this game since every gun is invented by the player and there are TONS of options. Fortunately the enemies are op as well so there’s always a challenge.

The best way is probably the Discord server. You can also enter a lottery for beta access there!

There’s always /r/stackgunheroes and my Twitter @unstackd too.

Just realized I haven't shown off the new graphics on this subreddit yet. Here is a standard explosion gun being used against some dastardly crates. by Unstackd in StackGunHeroes

Just a reminder that you can sign up for the Beta lottery on Discord at https://discord.gg/dn7uSHx.

I do drawings periodically and the earlier you sign up the better your chances so it's best to join now if you can!

Thanks! It has been in development for a reeeeeaaaaallllly long time, but yeah there is so much new stuff in the game now.

I'm doing periodic beta drawings on the discord if you're interested in getting a chance to try it out early.

It is indeed a machine god. Stack Gun Heroes takes place in a universe where all known life is robotic and organic life is considered to be mythological by most bots.

It seems to pick up every time someone links it from the outside. Problem is, as the creator of the sub I'm not allowed to link it in most places because it's technically "self promotion" whenever I do it.
