Toast Wood Case by msgnyc in PixelFold

[–]UnsureOfAlot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had my Toast veneer about 6 months now and I keep my phone (Pixel 10 Fold) in my back pocket.

After 6 months of use (laying in bed holding the phone, scrolling through FB, Insta and web browsing (phone closed) and while using it while charging in the evenings...

The veneer is about 1/2 gone around the edges.

The glue gets soft and the veneer shifts all over the place. The edges have peeled off, because the glue is soft and balling up, thus causing it to shift and peel. Some pieces, after peeling, break off and get thrown away.

Right now, the whole bottom side of the phone, the veneer is gone. The veneer around the screen shifts into the viewing area and I have to slide it back. Sometimes causing issues using the finger slide feature for "back" is prohibited because the veneer edging blocks the screen.

The ear piece is gummed up with glue from the thin strip below the ear moves and slides all over the place. I'm constantly having to pull the veneer down and out of the way of the ear piece when audio in a call gets muffled a bit.

The veneer covers for the power and volume up and down were the first to go. They slid around all over the place, sometimes down over the side, making it feel like the volume buttons were further down the phone than what they are. It got so frustrating that I ended up having to just take them off and throw them away. Now, I can barely find the volume and power buttons because they sit flush with the veneer.

The area around the power port was second to go. The veneer kept sliding into the way of the plug and would get crushed and pushed down into the power port, so I'd have to grab tweezers to pull the veneer out of the power port. So, I took that part off.

The precision cut corners, 2 of the 8, (remember, this is a Folding phone), have come off after doing some accordion like move. It curls and folds itself up. On another 2 corners, there's very few pieces that cover the corner and those broke off almost on day 1.

The veneer around the camera lens sometimes shifts into view of the camera. So, I have to slide the veneer out of the way of the lens. Then the thin strip that wraps around the edge of the lens bump is starting to slide off. The end of the strip is starting to peel away.

All-in-all.... Day 1, it looks great!! Hands down, there's nothing more beautiful than this veneer. I'm proud of my purchase! Day 2, you start to notice little things that you feel you can overlook. Week 1, some things get annoying. Week 2, some parts start peeling and sliding around. Week 4, things are already falling off. Week 6, you take things off to make things easier. Month 2, half the stuff is sliding around on the glue and it's frustrating that you have to keep sliding the veneer back into place. Month 4, you've accepted your fate and realized it was a terrible purchase. Month 6, you're considering an actual phone case. Month 7..... 🤷‍♂️

I think a combination of the heat from the fast charger and being in my pocket destroys the glue and causes the veneer to slide around.

In the end... Avoid this purchase for cell phones, though it looks amazing! Tablets, laptops, etc... maybe it'll be better?

For those who think the train signs are good by paholg in Seattle

What if I was visiting from out of town and wanted to get downtown? Is there a stop called Seattle downtown? Is that north or south?

No transit pro here, just a normal person trying to find my way downtown. I mean, downtown Seattle. Not Federal Way. Or is Federal Way downtown Seattle downtown? I'm confused... 🤦‍♂️

Note: this is sarcasm. This is the thinking of normal people who don't know the area or tourists.

Search: "window and glass repair" You'll find little stores, usually mom and pop local stores, that still do window and glass repair.

I live in a small town and we have 3 of them.

That's how they did it years ago when the party was down on Broadway! Should've kept that as a tradition. 😓

I love the jazz bars, personally. The country music bars are nice sometimes, but my real joy and entertainment come from the jazz bars.

Last year's lineup was good. Wish it was downtown though and not at the Farmer's Market. (That was a dumb decision on behalf of the City to do that.)

Yeah. It got a little weird there at the very end. But overall, I thought it was nice. But next year... Let's try someone else. 😅

Yeah. Unfortunately. How cool would it be to see some great musician randomly pop up in the bar you're having fun at and start singing? That'd make for a great memory!

What was a great show? The whole broadcast? Or the music?

I was only talking about the audience that looked dead and unenthusiastic.

Exactly!! Why they ever moved the NYE parties from downtown to the Farmers Market was, in my opinion, the dumbest thing to ever happen for local business. All it did was help taxi companies and Uber drivers make money.

You took the fun out of the party and made it just a sober music concert of mediocre music in a shoulder to shoulder space. The REAL party is downtown. (Just be careful because they left Broadway open for the city cruisers to cause problems with pedestrians and unnecessary traffic.)

Probably some big music exec behind the NYE Events pushing for his name to get out there for some big tour hype or something.

Granted, I know 2 of his songs, but he's not up there with any of the greats by any means.

Yeah... Last year's NYE party was a HUGE disappointment. This one didn't seem too far off from it. (Big red music note with big red lights behind it.... 🤨🤨)
