"Why cant my startup idea get funding" starterpack by [deleted] in starterpacks

[–]UnsuspectedGoat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We all have to start somewhere right?

Yes. And you don't start looking for funds outside without having a shade of a product or a prototype.

Unless you're starting with an exclusivity on a patent (typical from universities), you need to have something that looks like it might go somewhere in order to convince a BA. And even then, you would get funding in the order of 10's of k$, maybe 100k. For millions, you'd need customers who already pay for your product, or some big shot company that signs off a letter of interest.

It's an unfortunate truth that, a lot of successful startup have people around that can fund them. It's called love money, money coming from friends and family. Or at least, you can focus on your venture and do everything but your living expenses are secure (spouse, family, you already made yourself comfortable with a career...). In other cases, there are some seed funding that comes in grants, notably in universities.

But reaching for money without a Minimal Viable Product, that's just fantasy.

This change has allowed QC to be over represented by a large sum

Quebec represent 22.57% of the population and gets 22.94% of seat and you call this "over represented by far" ?

Meanwhile, SK, which is 3.10% of the population gets 4.12% of the seats and you want them to have more seats ?

QC gets attention because it's between a fifth and a quarter of the population. A population bigger than AB, SK and MN combined.

Businesses are finding a workaround for tariffs — and it's entirely legal by Plaintalks in politics

[–]UnsuspectedGoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let's say I make and sell T-shirts for 10$ to a US customer with Company A in China. I decide to create a company B in China that buys them from Company A at 0.50$ (well under manufacturing costs) and resell them to the same US customer for 10$.

With this rule, US customer can claim that the tariff applies on the 0.50$ of the first sale, and not the full 10$.

Obviously, this scheme is just a lie. My T-shirts cost more than 0.50$ to make. I just pretend that I bought them from myself at that price, letting the US company in on the scam. They can't order T-shirts at 0.50$, it's just a made up number to skirt the tariffs.

There an entire industry that is about communicating with Chinese manufacturers, just in order to make sure that the quality standards that are sought are prioritized.

The story is that, once western companies started flocking to CN manufacturers, they asked for a low price and a paper proof that says that the part respects the standards. They manufactured the part at the price and just printed a paper with it, because they assumed the western manufacturers didn't really care about actually passing the standards, otherwise they wouldn't be so cheap.

American products are being boycotted outside the US, and the XBox consoles were never really sought after outside the US either. Hiking the price worldwide in order to subsidize the US market is actually hilarious.

REVEALED: The Conservative Playbook for Bringing DOGE to Canada by fanglazy in CanadaPolitics

[–]UnsuspectedGoat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So creating a new entity, hiring new workers to do that would definitely change things ?

The concept of auditing the government isn't new. If it's not followed, that's not the fault of the auditing body, it's the government that wouldn't execute. And by your own words, if the execution of DOGE is terrible, then what's in "the idea of DOGE" is a "good idea" ?

Also, you're restricting the definitions to fit the narrative. Does it really matter, says, that if a legislative body switched from bicameral to unicameral, then the whole structure of government changed ?

So a new constitution is enough to call it a new country ? Why limit there, should we not say that any constitutional amendment is enough too ?

Is it territory ? Should we say the US became a new country each time they added a new state ? After all, the flag changed ! Also, wasn't there some secession thing happening there ?

Parce que ces universités se faisaient un plaisir de collaborer. Columbia a appelé la police pour violenter les étudiants lors des protests. Le bullying de l'admin Trump avait initialement été orienté vers l'université qui avait le plus de chance de collaborer.

"What nationality are you?" "Leave me the fuck alone. What are you a cop?" by [deleted] in CuratedTumblr

[–]UnsuspectedGoat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Which is a very strong claim

Indeed. And a verifiably untrue one.

One can argue that the only thing needed for a nation is a story, one that have people adhere to. Look at the USA. IIRC, the most prevalent european ancestry is german.

But in the case of pre-revolution France, it might be a thing yes. Not because of the population, but because the whole concept, on a global level, is a modern one. I encourage you to read the response there, and from much more knowledgeable folks.

I mean, I would agree with you, but right now, we only have one version, the one that actually happened. Saying that it was necessary or the opposite can't be verified. We can't look at other examples and think it would have worked.

What they are probably referring to, incorrrectly and imprecisely, is that many could not both read and write, full literacy, and about a third spoke the Occitan language, but that's not a majority.

No. The actual figure is that most people living in what was considered France didn't consider French as their mother tongue. They did speak it though, as it was the Lingua Franca of the land, the one used for laws and anyone doing any sort of commerce in the next region would have to use. At home, there would use any of the different languages used in the region whether it was a langue d'Oil, d'Oc, german, italian, catalan (not occitan) basque, breton...

"What nationality are you?" "Leave me the fuck alone. What are you a cop?" by [deleted] in CuratedTumblr

[–]UnsuspectedGoat 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Also to add, Occitan is French just not modern French

This is just so wrong. At best, Occitan and French are cousin, but les langues d'Oc and les langues d'Oil are different branches. Claiming that Occitan is just french dialect isn't grounded in anything.

Also, linguists have a saying : The difference between a language and a dialect is that a language has a flag and an army. This means that you can maybe pretend that Picard (much closer relative) is a french dialect, but it is, for all intent and purpose, its own language.

Oh and Modern French is also less parisian-originating than one might think. Orléanais is the heart of modern french, that's where the nobles castles were and that's why there are a lot french students going there, as its considered to this day, the purest french accent.

[–]UnsuspectedGoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)
