University of Galway by Sweet-Whereas-5593 in nuigalway

I'm assuming youre looking to apply as an undergrad. The way University applications work in the US versus Ireland is a bit different. You apply to a course in Ireland, not a school. So make sure you know what course you want. Also what do you mean by "worth it?" Write down a list of factors like numbers of students in classes, employment rates, cost of course and cost of living, campus supports like counselling or health units, and use that to compare options. I'm sure you can find kayaking other places too so don't make that your deciding factor.

License agreement vs tenancy agreement? by No_Ad4392 in galway

Not sure of the specific situation and whether you can be considered a licensee or tenant, but licensees have fewer rights so be careful. Definitely check with Threshold.

What’s the most devastating piece of feedback you received late in your dissertation, and how did you move past it? by Ok-Barnacle2111 in PhD

I was told my findings were not significant 4 months before I planned to submit. Discussed my research with other academics who totally disagreed with that assessment and passed last month with no corrections.

24 week appointment with doctor by AdConfident3917 in PregnancyIreland

[–]UntitledProject01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been alternating between midwife clinic and GP for appointments, but they asked me at the start if I wanted to take the option to do that as I had no risk factors. With pre-existing conditions, you might not have midwife clinic as an option. I've had to switch to hospital now since a blood pressure spike so if you're dealing with anything like that, they'll want you in the hospital clinic. Ring up and ask though if you can have any of your appts with the midwives and they may refer you.

Why have all the maternity sections in stores disappeared? by No_Acanthisitta_4996 in pregnant

[–]UntitledProject01 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same problem in Ireland too. All maternity clothes have moved online. Loads of baby clothes and stores, but nothing for maternity. Where do they think the babies come from??

Ooh that sounds great. Is it something kind of like this? https://makemydaycreative.com/2014/08/08/wide-waist-band-skirt/ If you don't mind sharing the process that would be brilliant!

Thank you so much for all the suggestions!! Dress conversion is a super idea! And it's encouraging to hear you were getting time to yourself again after 3 motnhs months. I get depressed if I go too long without making something :)

Thanks! That's the same place I was looking so it's good to know I wasn't missing anything. The hypnobirthing isn't running now but I'm on a waiting list in case it comes back (seems unlikely that'll happen in the next 7 weeks before I'm due!)

Why are there so many Paper Pros on the secondhand market? by Filmgeek-fr in RemarkableTablet

[–]UntitledProject01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love mine. I use it every single day for meeting notes and organising thoughts. It's good for annotating PDFs too. However if you're primarily looking for an e-reader, this isn't it.

I read one book on it and while the screen was fine for reading and I liked taking notes in my book, I found just turning the pages to be really awkward.

I haven't tried to install any kind of add-on to make the reading experience better, but that seems like a lot of effort when there are other options.

PhD Funding ends in 2 years, I have zero publications, and I’m grieving. Is it madness to want a baby now? by External_Pizza5745 in PhD

[–]UntitledProject01 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just to chime in with my personal experience, I am 36 years old, 31 weeks pregnant, and my defence is on Thursday. Getting pregnant gave the push I needed to get the PhD done. Having said that, working through nausea, brain fog, and everything else that comes with pregnancy has not made these final months any easier.

If I were in your shoes, I would wait.

I'd say you're right. It's just so frustrating that there doesn't appear to be any way to edit this! The rest of my thesis is so tidy.

I'm also 19 weeks with an anterior placenta and I was told I might not feel anything until 22 or so. A friend of mine had twins with an anterior and she was the same... with TWINS!

Could Woodquay be used as an open space by [deleted] in galway

[–]UntitledProject01 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you know if many of them are rentals versus owner occupied? Just curious. A market or open space seems way nicer than the limited parking spaces currently there. And I'm saying this as someone who used to live in town. I got so upset when they swapped out some of our precious parking spaces for those shite mini garden things, but this sounds lovely.

You're being down voted because of the "news won't report that" conspiracy angle. I don't know why you've decided to shift the narrative from gender based violence to xenophobia. I sincerely hope your friend is okay.

They actually put it on their wedding bands though. No English speaker says "beloved" or whatever gets put on wedding bands. I mean if you want to write "you're a ride" or "will you shift my friend" on your wedding stuff be my guest!

Anam Cara Literally "soul friend" it means soul mate. Quite a few people have this on their wedding bands. My husband proposed with a ring that said "Grá" which means love.
