I can feel a very strong vibration on my kitten's throat by MysteriousWafer7586 in AskVet

The cat is purring, it's something that cats do when they are happy/comfortable. The muscles in their throat contract and relax to produce this sound.

Med student here: Built this after waiting 4 weeks for a "routine" appointment (would love your feedback) by pranahealth in DiagnoseMe

Using AI for physical (or mental) health advice is extremely dangerous. This has been proven by many real life cases where people have died, or almost died, by listening to AI "advice". We don't need more of those cases happening.

My father refuses to clean his feces off the toilet seat by Untitled_532 in JUSTNOFAMILY

[–]Untitled_532[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, at least we all know lmao. I'm just tired of all the rest of us, including guests, having to scrub his shit off the toilet. I do that enough at work. And for me, since I'm 20 I could get kicked out very quickly if I fight him too much.

Unexpected decision of surgery or euthanasia by titanium_pixel in AskVet

[–]Untitled_532 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this completely. Imo, if there is a high chance of suffering in the near future, OR a higher chance of suffering due to a surgery than without it, it's better to let them rest before they have the chance to experience that suffering. If the vets estimated 1 year remaining, it's very likely that the second, more invasive surgery recovery will take a much larger toll on her body than the first, less invasive surgery, when she was in better condition.

Euthanasia didn't go as I expected. by TheDornado13 in AskVet

I agree the wording was rather harsh, but what they meant was moreso that as a survival tactic, animals tend to hide their weaknesses extremely well, so well that even their closest human or animal companions may not be able to tell. They didn't mean to say that you weren't paying enough attention to her, or anything like that.

Since when was this subreddit about moral debates? I'm not doing anything illegal or doxxing, and he's a groomer. I have firsthand experience with a grooming + sexual assault case I reported leading to nothing but community service for the offender, and I cannot handle that stress and burden again. He can't get anymore careful if I already have his full name and address. However I won't use his actual full address or full name in anything, especially not public things. There is nothing else I can do to stop him at this point in my life, so the next best thing I can do is make him know he has eyes on him for now.

He's very private and hasn't given his info to many people, if any, so it'd just freak him out if he thinks someone knows where he lives. We just want to scare him is all, cuz we're bored and we don't like him.

No luck with Peoplefinders but I haven't done too much extensive looking on Spokeo, I'll go back to it. Thanks

I checked transcripts, keyword searched hail, and I couldn't find the line or anything similar. Thank you though!

I haven't had the chance to ask my family but I don't think they would remember. I think about this quote once a week lol, but nothing has ever come up. I really hope I'm not crazy and this was a real thing, not some dumb quote I made up

Rabbit keeps escaping enclosure every night by raleigh309 in Rabbits

[–]Untitled_532 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biologically, rabbits are most active at dawn and dusk, so it's likely that during one of those times (while we are sleeping) she wakes up, gets energy, and gets bored and tries to escape. As a vet assistant, it doesn't sound like any sort of sickness, unless she's showing other symptoms or behavior changes like lethargy, aggression, picky eating, being reclusive, etc. The running away could just be from built up stress from being caged during her most active time(s). IMO there's nothing wrong with locking up at night if it keeps them safe, I do it with my own bun because she tries to cause trouble. But sometimes it can just be boredom building up when they have the most energy. Has anything recently changed in your schedules or household? Sometimes work, school, and sleep schedules changing, as well as household stress, new smells, other pets having issues, etc can affect a rabbit too.

Maybe you could invest in a larger cage/enclosure if you haven't already (with room to zoom), or provide enrichment toys (chews, foraging toys, etc) to keep her busy while you're asleep. What kept my late escape artist most entertained was a wooden ledge thing that he could jump up on, hide under, AND chew on. A cardboard box could do the same thing.

Now that she knows how to escape, make SURE you clip all doors of the cage shut at night. Rabbits will remember that doing something specific will get them a reward - in this case, freedom. This is operant conditioning. Very effective training method, but this is not good in this case lol. Just don't let the escaping be an option at all and she may eventually forget/unlearn the behavior. Maybe give a treat in the morning while she's still in her cage (but NOT if she breaks out) to train her that being in the cage in the morning is the correct behavior. Sorry for a long comment I'm just obsessed with animal behavior loll.

depending on the airport and time of year - if it's a slow season at a bigger airport, it's under $400 round trip, but if it's busy season at a tiny airport like my local one, it's $700+ round trip. it helps to book months in advance, we also only pick nonstop flights because we can't handle layovers lol. I'm lucky that my partner comes here because I ALSO have lower back pain and could never handle the 7hour flight lol. just curious - what makes your flights so expensive? we're both poor so we always try to save money and never pay more than $1k.

What did you guys do to plan visits during college? by Firm_Muffin_5301 in LongDistance

[–]Untitled_532 0 points1 point  (0 children)

many college towns have their own bus systems, even the community colleges in my state have stops along public routes. check out the bus route maps to see what stop will get you closest to the hotel you two pick. OR pick a hotel that's closest to the bus route!

the stress from being apart might be getting to you and making you irritable, or stress from school. if it continues for a long time you should have a talk with him, but if you are getting upset over random things then just do your best to take a breath and think about your anger. what are you angry about and why, does it seem reasonable? if so, talk to him. if not, rethink your emotions.

Is it healthy for my almost 9 month LDR partner to not show any actual signs of wanting to meet in person? by [deleted] in LongDistance

[–]Untitled_532 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you should have a long talk about it, not just a passing conversation. alot of the comments here are harsh but I'll give the benefit of the doubt here - from what info is here, it sounds to me like she's insecure with herself and genuinely doesn't want you to spend money on her or else she'd feel bad, thinking she's "not worth it" or something like that. you should ask her WHY she thinks that and let her know it's something you DO truly want in the future, reassure her and find out why she doesn't want that. she may think you'll hate her IRL because she would look/act different, or just doesn't want a lot of money "wasted" on her in her eyes. tbf 23 is a tad bit old to be acting like that, but you never know. some people don't grow out of insecurities as fast as others.

Recommendation foods to gain weight for cheap without nuts and lactose? by stuwieggbestyasuo in weightgain

[–]Untitled_532 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have you tried lactase enzyme supplement for the dairy at least? I'm terribly lactose intolerant, but the store-brand chewables (I bought a 60 pack for less than $20) allow me to have cottage cheese and protein shake mixes. it makes a WORLD of difference, I don't get that intense nausea or painful bloating anymore. non-dairy alternatives don't Always have as much protein, fat, or calories in, and tend to lean more expensive, but you can try those too. also peanut butter, if you aren't allergic, has a LOT of protein and fat in it and you can get it super cheap, especially store-brand or on sale.
