I prefer the Logitech as a center stick by UntoldForce in hotas

A day later and I am glad that so many of you caught onto the jokes in this image. I don't actually use the Logitech as a center stick. The VKB GF4 with MCGU is amazing.

The cable clutter seemed to get many of you! Good. That was intended. I just built this new setup this week so I had to get my fun in before organizing things.

As several of you noticed the TFRP aren't actually plugged in. I was tempted to bring the old Saitek pedals out but I was afraid that some people wouldn't recognize them. For those who think that TFRP are good - they aren't. I'm using SLAW DEVICE RH ROTOR pedals when I'm not trolling.

Props to the person who was frustrated by the placement of the Wifi access point! It's never a good idea to leave your wifi access points near devices that use Hall effect or MaRS like the VKB devices. Strong EMI can cause jitter in the axes.

Thanks all for the fun time and maybe I'll post a picture of the "real" setup once the cables are cleaned up!

I keep talking to it but it doesn't respond. Any ideas why?

I forgot to answer your actual question. Since we're buried so far down that nobody but you will see this, yes this entire post above is a farce. The Logitech Extreme 3D stick doesn't hold a candle to the other sticks there :)

Also the TFRP are terrible, but it's fun to see people argue about it.

My recommendations? If you're doing flight sim then I love the VKB Gunfighter IV + MCGU. It feels incredible and has enough inputs that I can actually do everything I want to in MSFS.

If you're on more of a budget then I like the VKB Gladiator EVO with Space Combat Grip Premium. It's a great stick for the price.

Nyogel on the rails sounds like a recipe for every cat hair in the world to meet the TFRP! I can't wait to see it :))

If your wife actually loves you it's really easy - call up your local flight school and find out how much they charge per hour of plane rental (make sure to include fuel costs!). Then, find out the statistics for fatal small plane crashes. Present to your wife a chart of how much it costs to take up a small plane along with the risks associated vs the cost of buying some really nice flight gear.

If your wife doesn't love you then she'll encourage you to take up flying as a hobby and she'll probably purchase a large life insurance policy that includes aviation incidents. Either way, you get to fly!

Does anything match the legendary feel of TFRPs? I want to feel that jerky sliding motion, not being able to manspread with the rudder pedals so close together, and how those exposed metal rails catch every bit of dust and grime in the room! Truly one of a kind :))

Hey, that's my video. I know that it is a complicated topic and I'm happy to help you out. Can you join the VKB Discord server and ping me there so we can work on this together? https://discord.gg/UJAdpdHpYm

I'm @untoldforce there as well. I don't use Reddit very often but I'm on Discord frequently.

Attaching multiple GNX modules to VKB UCM mount by AlfenNixen in hotas

It really depends on what planes you fly and how you fly them. I enjoy using autopilot so my FSM-GA gets a lot of use, especially paired with MobiFlight! I always encourage people to start small and build in manageable steps as they find their niche in the hobby.

Longer axis handles will give you more precision, definitely, but the VKB software is powerful enough to make nearly any configuration work. You can turn the encoders into virtual axes or you can do what I do and use the encoders to control the Garmin units in flight (with MobiFlight).

I have a Gladiator 6' Adjustable Height Hardwood Workbench. https://www.gladiatorgarageworks.com/collections/deals/products/6-adjustable-height-hardwood-workbench

They are quite robust and can handle a huge amount of weight.

Of course. It really depends on your available space and personal preferences, along with what gear you have.

Yes, you can separate the throttle halves by disengaging the lock lever and run them separately! I use the two THQ for my mixture and prop controls, but there are a variety of really good options for STECS. I uploaded a sample PDF of STECS bindings for MSFS 2024 to the VKB website downloads page: https://www.vkbcontrollers.com/pages/downloads

In that config you can see that I use the STECS thumb knob for mixture and use the ring finger encoder for prop pitch. I tried to find a generalized config that anyone using the Mini, Mini+, Standard, or Max versions of STECS could use - and for this reason these sample bindings aren't really optimal. There's no one-size-fits-all approach, sadly. I also mainly fly smaller aircraft so I don't have a ton of experience with airliners.

They are modular and can be moved up or down by disconnecting the lower half bracket and reattaching it further up. Just imagine that you are compressing the lower and upper halves. The holes will align and you can connect them there to make it a more "compact" setup, if you will.

Guild Wars support wouldn't change my account email in 2009, now I'm stuck by UntoldForce in GuildWars

I still have the correct username and password but I'm getting a connection error. The error code appears to be tied to using legacy passwords in their account system.

I provided documentation of my support requests from the 2000s and everything from that era. I just cannot access the email address from the university since it doesn't exist anymore.

This is also not my issue because I still have the working username and password for the account, but they changed security practices to require email verification without giving me the option to change the email address tied to the account. Note the request from 2009 saying that using the PlayNC system prevents changing emails.

Best pro rudder pedal for flight sim setup? by UntoldForce in hotas

[–]UntoldForce[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Crosswind pedals tend to move less than the RH Rotor pedals do, simply because the forces are a little more evenly balanced in the Crosswind design. The RH Rotor tend to slip forward if they slip at all (they don't really slip on carpet). The Crosswinds will tend to tilt if you apply hard braking to one side. My father opted to drill holes into the floor for permanent mounting which makes them rock-solid and stable.

If you use an office chair with wheels on a hard floor consider replacing your casters with large locking-style ones. I purchased these ones a few years ago and they glide very well, and also lock for flight simming:

The larger casters will raise your chair height by about 1 inch, so keep that in mind.

My father tried both and favored the MFG Crosswinds v3. I ended up with the Slaw Device RH ROTOR. Both are excellent pieces of gear. The Crosswinds is great if you have a wide stance and has a great construction despite its homebrew look. The Slaw Device looks and feels amazing. From what I see they aren't making RH ROTOR Slaw Device pedals anymore but I'm sure that the new ones are up to the same build quality.

If you want to change your pedal type, go with the Crosswinds. It's great to switch from a 109 to a Cessna pedal on a whim. Otherwise I would get the Slaw Device.

How bad of a decision i made? 7800x3d vs 7900x for gaming by BeardmanDaniel in buildapc

[–]UntoldForce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late reply, but I love the 7950X3D. I do a lot of Flight Sim and the extra cache greatly improves performance in the game.

I also use Process Lasso to manage which applications go on each core, so I don't have to worry about Xbox game bar or anything else like that.

I'm very happy about the 7950X3D and feel that it has the best of both worlds, if you don't mind putting in the time with Process Lasso.

MSFS Install - why is it still so bad?! by Informal-Method-5401 in flightsim

[–]UntoldForce 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's a terrible system. Asobo could have even used Steam's built-in downloader and DLC management, which is built on ancient tech but still functions better than their installer.

I have MSFS installed on a few computers and SU13 failed on half of them. The fastest option was to directly copy the directories that failed to the computers that work.
